From New Scientist Feb 27th, 2009 : (here)

"When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

And the most amusing finding:
Church-goers bought less online porn on Sundays – a 1% increase in a postal code's religious attendance was associated with a 0.1% drop in subscriptions that day. However, expenditures on other days of the week brought them in line with the rest of the country, Edelman finds.

Obviously, we non-religious liberal types aren't doing enough to support the porn industry. I'm a bit ashamed, honestly.

I am sure the only reason for this is so that they can research the issue and make informed decisions.

I'm outraged by this. Conservatives and religious types shouldn't be allowed to be number one in this category.
OTOH, who pays for porn anymore? Last I checked, the internet exists.

Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama.

State-by-state decisions reagrding "conservative" and "liberal"? I am truly impressed by this thorough, detailed methodology.

Ok, I know it is just for a fluff article, but still.

So conservatives pay for something while liberals get it for free. Makes sense to me! :p

No, you non-religious liberal types are the ones making all the porn that religious conservatives are buying and renting.

Guess which group is having more fun. :D

I hearby call on liberals to purchase twice as much porn on Sundays!

That's a tough one.

Is it possible that bible-thumpers are the only ones dumb enough to pay the mega-sites ridiculous membership fees? Come on...that's a lot more to try to hide from your sexually frustrated puritanical spouse.

I don't think I even need to make the comment about guys going to ridiculous lengths to secure their porn collection, and then getting busted by leaving the disc in the player or a browser window tab open post-wank.

I also like the way he assumes conservatives are buying the porn. Why couldn't it be liberals, who just happen to live in conservative states, that are buying the porn?

What constitutes porn on the internet? Is it only hardcore, or is any kind of nudity considered porn?

The point is that the more conservative a state is the more porn it consumes per capita. And the more religious it is the more there is a dip in porn sales on sundays.

I wonder why conservatives seem to be the ones trying to make porn illegal then...

That is pointless. Just because a state is conservative (I'm not really sure of the criteria for this) doesn't mean conservatives are buying it. Got it??

Sales drop on Sundays? Maybe that's because the little teenage perverts who buy the porn, are busy with family on Sundays in those "conservative" states.

I think you'll find that most internet porn is bought by grown men. They're the ones with credit cards.
