Pluto on the Bubble

I think the gist is that Pluto won't lose it's planet status, but in the future big rocks will have to fit a more rigid classification. Kind of a moot point, I think.

The real question is, why can Goofy talk, and Pluto can't?

Just for the sake of amusement, could you give a "reasonable definition" of a planet that isn't arbitrary?

Also, can you define the difference between a hill and a mountain?

An object that isn't a star that orbits at least one star that large enough to pull it's self into a sphere but does not share it's orbit with any other objects of a simular size.

Then according to your definition, Sol has no planets, as none of the objects circling it are completely spherical. Some are bumpy, like Earth, and some are significantly oblat, like Jupiter.

An object that isn't a star that orbits at least one star that has a gravitational field large enough to overcome its own material strength to the degree that is becomes spheroid but does not share it's orbit with other objects with a total mass greater than it's own.

Define "spheroid" in a completely non-arbitrary manner.

Also, please explain when a pile of pebles becomes fine enough to be called gravel, and then define when those particles are small enough to be call sand, in a totally non-arbitrary way.
 
Reasons why Pluto is a planet and will stay that way.
1. Pluto is the only planet discovered by the USA.
2. Save having to revise a lot of books.
3. Many people will never accept the change.

I am sure they will be debating this for a long time. It will come up every time a body that is bigger than Pluto is discovered.

The thing is, this is the first time an object bigger than Pluto has been discovered. When this has been discussed before, there was evidence that Pluto was not unique, but no proof that it was not the largest object past Neptune. Now there is definite proof that Pluto is not in any way special.

I doubt that they will change it's status, purely for reasons of tradition. When it comes down to it, it makes no difference whatsoever and they'd really be better off spending their time on other things. For the record I don't think it should be classed a planet though. And just think how that wold screw up the astrologers.

Pluto was way more classy than Goofy :)

Pluto is and always will be a planet. Anyone that says otherwise needs to have their liver torn out and held in front of their dying eyes while it's still beating.
