Please don't poke my screen!

Ok, I have this co-worker who pokes my nifty new flat-panel screen, making those horrible looking marks appear and dissapear.

1. How do I get his greasy fingerprints off my screen without hurting it?

2. Is it really that bad to poke the LCD screens? I'm mainly annoyed about the gross fingerprints, but can this otherwise harm the computer?

Thanks!

Don't get me started on fingerprints on my screen, don't get me started, JUST DONT GET ME STARTED.

If you just wipe it with a damp/wet, soft cloth, all will be fine. Moisture won't damage the surface. Just don't use any scourers or strong detergents, etc.

A colleague just resorted to putting a postit on the frame of his screen, "Don't Touch the screen!".

The next time your co-worker pokes your screen, poke him/her right-smack in the eyeball and ask how he/she likes it now.

No really. Just do it. I mean, don't poke their eyeball out or anything (leaves a really sticky mess on your own finger which will transfer over to your keyboard which will eventually cause your keys to stick/repeat which will...never mind...just don't do it too hard).

But you can make such lovely ripples on the screen. How can you not touch it? :D

Put a layer of cling film over the screen when he comes in, he should get the message.

Kill him. If you don't, he will go on poking innocent people's screens. Personally I've killed 4 screen-pokers so far.

Preasure is definatly(sp?) not good for LCD displays. You can cause permanent damage that way. The occassional poke isn't likely to damage it, but it is a possibility.

Personally I don't think there's much worse in the computer world than a damamged LCD display.

And when your sleeping with his wife, for Ed's sake, get the job done right. If she's making the facial expression in FFed's avatar, then that'll really show your co-worker whose boss.

I had a co-worker that had to borrow my laptop for a meeting. It was hooked up to the projector so we could all see the screen he was looking at.

As he was describing several fields on the screen, instead of using the cursor so that everyone else could see, he would use his ball-point pen and point at the laptop screen. I would gasp and cringe everytime he did that as he came so close to touching the screen every single time, and we'd have to remind him that we couldn't tell what he was pointing at.

If he'd been using a Sharpie I might have broken his wrist...

I'm no fan of screen-poking, either. However, one of my past bosses (and friends) was extra-sensitive about it. Sooooo, I'd regularly go into his cube, run my finger down my nose or across my forehead, then trace a pretty picture on his screen.

Holy Cow! I had no idea this would generate so much emotion!

Would water get the finger oil off the screen? I've heard that diluted isopropyl alcohol would work, but I wanted a second opinion on that....

Don't put water directly on the screen, as it can seep in between the screen and the frame. Maybe a damp cloth.

I just got a flat-screen lcd monitor, and, so far, I am not all that happy with it.

I am having difficulty getting the contrast right. Everything is either too washed out, or too dark.

Any thoughts?

Then he's probably in marketing.

Get him one of these, he won't know the difference, anyway:

Buy a sheet of glass and put it in front of the screen. This will also filter out the harmful psychic z-rays.

Next time his finger wanders close to your screen, gently lay the business end of a stapler (or nail gun if you happen to have one) on his crotch...

The heck with it. Yeah. Kill him, then sleep with his wife.
