This has to qualify as one of the weirdest wills ever:
Ingrid Newkirk's Unique Will

I Don't know about US law, but some of her instructions for the disposal of her body would be ruled illegal in the UK.

So she's not donating any of it to people who need organs, she's turning herself into a pathetic sideshow?

Scum. All of them are scum.

From the comments: "I think this is fantastic and inspiring! Wow! You are brave Ingrid! xx"

Brave? Well perhaps if she was proposing this be done whilst she was still alive! And on that point why couldn't she have a limb or two removed, one eye removed, one ear removed, a lobe of liver extracted if she did that so much of what she wants to happen to her body after her death could happen now and help stop many more creatures being harmed in the years before her natural death!

Some of these campaigners just have no commitment!

;)

grandstanding.
That was my thought as well. And now I've just noticed the get-out at the end:
5. I authorize the person carrying out these directions to deviate from them in any manner he or she deems appropriate to further the purpose expressed herein. If any provision or provisions of this document shall be held to be invalid, illegal, unenforceable, or in conflict with the law of any jurisdiction, the validity, legality, and enforceability of the remaining provisions shall not in any way be affected or impaired thereby.

Yeah, just a big showy gesture with no substance. Typical of the entire PETA ethos.

k. That anything else be done with my body that PETA believes will serve to draw attention to and so abate the plight of exploited animals.
They could feed it to wild animals :3.

Additionally, since it's a Will and not a contract, she could change it at any time, with or without the consent of the remainder of PETA. That's why I asked if she was dying - not that I wish death on anyone - because if this was a "gonna happen in the next five months" thing, I'd look forward to the shenanigans. If she's just making a grand gesture that we'll all likely forget about when she passes on in thirty years, then... It's Grandstanding.

The Will said:
j. That a little part of my heart be buried near the racetrack at Hockenheim, preferably near the Ferrari pits, where Michael Shumacher raced in and won the German Grand Prix;

That'll teach 'em.

Since the suggestions mentioned preclude manufacturing of useful gloves, I call dibs on the umbrella stand.

How do you know she's not an organ donor?

Apart from the fact that there's not much left by the time you've finished distributing the bequests, any normal donation would be likely to fall foul of clause K.

PETA ascribes to the "any publicity is good publicity" philosophy. As a result, their tactics are often embarrassing and ridiculous.

I think their cause is basically a good one though, even though I'm not a fan.

I know a LOT of vegans, and I don't know ANY who are fans of PETA.

Define what you mean by 'good cause'.

Remember, PETA is not just pushing for better treatment of animals. They are supposedly pushing for an equality between humans and animals. This means:
- No eating of meat
- No medical research on animals. Say goodbye to around 90% of all medical research into things like AIDS
- No use of animal products of any type. Ok, maybe not having fur coats isn't such a hardship. But many heart operations (some use pig valves), flu vaccines (chicken eggs) and other treatments that save lives would no longer be possible.

And then their is the fact that PETA ended up killing dozens of animals left at its shelters.

If you want to try to make sure animals have a 'good life', give to your local humane society (or a respectable nature preservation group).
