If Congress enacts a law against flag burning, the first result will be flag burning in protest of the law, meaning that the law will cause the very thing it seeks to prevent. So, if Congress seeks to prevent flag burning, it should not enact laws against it.
I hate it when Congress wastes time and resources on these self-aggrandizing nationalistic non-issues, instead of dealing with genuine threats to the country. America has more to fear from people who wrap themselves in the flag than from people who burn the flag.

Yes, like the "USA Patriot Act".
Basically, pass a law that makes it "OK" for the government to arrest people for non-specified "crimes" and keep them locked up indefinitely without a trial, have trials where the evidence is "secret", and also do search and seisure on people without a court order for "secret" reasons, and oh, BTW, the fact that your house has been ransacked by federal agents is also "secret", so don't tell anybody.
Oh, and bug/wire tap anybody they please.
Among other privileges.
Never mind what they've already done to the constitutional rights about reasonable search and seisure in the name of their precious "War On Drugs".
And then the goold old "faith based initiatives": Confiscate your earnings through taxes to give money to churches.
Oh well, when they pass that law, people may as well burn big copies of the constitution instead. There's nothing left in it that our government respects anymore.
