I have to admit that the Bush photo´s quality is pretty poor, much worse than the rest of the picture. That makes is appear like photoshop.

Looks to me like a TV campaign ad screenshot, shopped to fit a billboard. Although it could be a real, but badly executed, billboard created using that method.

I think the effect is caused by the JPEG compression. Most of the rest of the photo consists of blues and whites which can stay much sharper when compressed. Only Bush's face consists of more colours and tones.

If the Bush photo was itself a poor JPEG photo made to fit to the billboard in photoshop, its compression artifacts which are perfectly square, would have been skewed the same way as the picture. Like the picture they would each have the same perspective effect.

I looked at the artifacts in photoshop, and they did not have a perspective effect. They were perfectly square, just as you would expect if it was a real photo that was just heavily compressed.

If you magnify it, you'll find no obvious clues that the photo is faked. Which does not mean that it is necessarily real: the photo could have been altered in a much higher resolution and only later reduced in size and heavily compressed.

My guess is that it is real. I see no reason to assume that there are no people who would want to display such billboards, and I also see no reason why anyone would want to photoshop a billboard that is really not all that unlikely.

Seems pretty creepy to me. You could insert Saddam's face and be in pre-war Iraq or Hitler's face during the Third Reiche.

huh. My immediate first impression of the Big Brother posters that were everywhere in 1984, followed shortly by my second impression, the Simpsons episode, The Joy of Sect in which Homer joins a cult led by "The Leader".
