Papal summit on evolution

You know, at least JPII apologized to Galileo... Benedict XVI seems to have no redeeming value.

I thought that the previous Pope had decided that Darwin was OK. Maybe that was a sort of interim infallibility.

So much for the Pope's infallibility. No doubt this fiasco will culminate with some papal bull - just like it started.

No pope ever decided that evolution wasn't OK (assuming a purely scientific theory rather than one weighted down with philosophical baggage). One of the interesting things about the Catholic Church is that any purely scientific theory is, practically by definition, generally OK.

And the "infallibility" thing has been flogged to death already on this forum.

It's only been used twice, both times on boring theological waffle about the Virgin Mary, in 1854 and 1950. It's not like a presidential line-item veto or anything excitingly "nuclear option"esque like that. It's rather disappointingly dull.

The Catholic Church debates the latest in new-fangled scientific theories. Meanwhile an astronomer is 'replaced'. Eppur si muove. :)

Great. How nice for them.
I assume scientists around the world await the results with bated breath.

I'm sure if a group of Biologists get together to debate the truth of the Water into Wine miracle the Vatican will reciprocally take the results on board.
