One good decision, one bad

In an effort to raise 9 billion dollars in the next four years the government of Ontario has eliminated (among others) chiropractic services from the health-care plan. Too bad it was only done on a fiscal level rather than a fact-based level. It has been a thorn in my side that I pay through my taxes for someone to get subsidized voodoo sessions.

At the same time the government has removed most eye examinations, again a monetary decision. It is near-sighted (pun intended) that the powers that be ignore the proven benefits of regular eye exams. What the elimination of eye exam coverage will mean down the road is fewer visits to the optometrists, more incidences of diabetes, claucoma and high blood pressure all detected early by these exams.

Baby and bathwater out the window.

I am a little curious about how this works. Do the chiropractors go on welfare if the subsidized treatment is discontinued and nobody goes to them?

They will probably come up with some scam that will continue to draw in the suckers. As long as it isn't on my coin.

They might go back to uni, get a degree in engineering or programming and help design a robot that will do everyones heavy lifting so no one gets a sore back ever again. Then with robots doing all the menial jobs, everything becomes a lot cheaper, so humans have to work less, meaning we all just work 2 or 3 days week, but enjoy the same standard of living, people take up useful hobbies in droves, and before you know it we are living in a star trek utopia, without aliens always warring with us. Sounds good to me.

Damn that sucks. I have a family tendency towards glaucoma, in fact I get checked yearly for it.

Oh well, there's always braille.

Well don't worry, I'm sure that since they're removing items from the list of medical services available, the Liberals in power will reduce your tax rate accordingly.

HA HA!
