Old UK OS maps online

The National Library of Scotland has a digitisation project for older UK Ordnance Survey maps of the UK (not limited to Scotland) from the mid-nineteenth century onwards. Site.

Included are the 6"/mi [10,000:1] of England, Wales and Scotland, the 25"/mi town plans [2500:1] and the large scale, 5'/mi [1000:1] plan of London.

They're integrated with Google Maps, e.g. here for the London map, so you can switch from 2014 to 1894.

A fascinating trove, and potentially very useful for UK based gaming, research or picking holes in historical novels.

The main NLS map index is also full of interesting stuff, as is this site.

Pretty useless actually I tried switching to the satellite map for 1894 - nothing loaded

Awesome; thanks for sharing. Hopefully they will be able to acquire or borrow the six missing maps. I also wonder if they have an earlier detailed map of London.

Thanks for the heads-up. I love this kind of stuff and have office walls covered with prints of maps of my hone town and home county going back a few hundred years.
