Olbermann is going crazy

Well he is obsessed with Glenn Beck, and has aired about 10 minutes of the Beck show on countdown two nights in a row. Beck is of course loony tunes, but now Olbermann is so enthralled that he can't let it go. First it was O'Reilley, then Limbaugh, etc. Enough already!!!
I don't plan to be watching Olbermann for a while, which is a shame, because he has been the only voice of the progressives. I am liking Cenk Uygur more an more, on Air America.
Why not air every rant of Charlie Manson every night on the news? All we see are loonies lately. I want to hear from smart people who know something. I don't care even if I disagree.

Am I overreacting to this?

I don't get to watch his show regularly, so I don't know what he's been up to lately.

If you're looking for a good progressive voice, what's wrong with Rachel Maddow?

I really like Rachel. I was following her on Air America, and found Cenk. But we need more than just her, though she is excellent, but she can do only so much. Of course, Keith got her the job on MSNBC, I am guessing. She is a little too obsequious to him.
Keith is beginning to appear as a clown, juxtaposing Beck's face and his, bad idea. He was so good with his rants when it meant something. Now this is just all bulls' hit. We need his input to the political process. I have written many emails, but of course they get ignored. I am very concerned that he will become just another fool in the mix.

Not at all. Olberman is someone who always reaches for the low-hanging fruit. It's like the type of kid who picks a fight with the class weakling or mentally challenged kid, and then brags about it as if he's accomplished something significant.

Olbermann is merely reacting to the wackiest of the wacko. For the past few weeks, that person has been Glenn Beck. Don't worry, once O'Reilly tops Beck in wackiness, Olbermann will start listing him as the "worst person in the world."

I am most worried about the emphasis on loonies lately. It is getting out of hand, and in a way is trivializing the craziness of an underclass who are frankly, threatening our elected government. Ok, to put it bluntly, Glenn Beck is not funny, any more than Ted Bundy was a barrel of laughs. There are people who are just off the skids and to treat them as if they are just another side of the viewpoints of mainstream America, is just foolish.
What happens if we just ignore them? Will they eventually go away? I'm not sure, but to be fed this stuff every night as news on a progressive format, is just nuts. I'm frustrated. I really was fond of Olbermann until recently.

I must say though, that Anna Marie Cox, the redhead on Rachel's show is just very .... cute, no, she is very pretty.

Exactly. Over-the-top is Olberman's style. When a Republican or right-winger says something idiotic, he is on it like flies on a dead raccoon. He'll repeat the idiotic part several times. That's what he does. Like Limbaugh, he is primarily an entertainer, and entertainers use the best material they can find. With material like Beck, O'Reilly, Coulter, Palin, Steel et. al., he should have plenty to work with for a long time.

I mean, he has a segment called "Worst Person in the World", fer chrissakes. What do you expect?

But no matter how "over-the-top" he gets, he'll never be able to match Beck for sheer, pull-it-out-of-your-backside, hyperpartisan craziness.

I've seen very little of either Olbermann or Maddow, but the stuff I have seen seemed very light on substance and more geared towards partisan entertainment. If you're looking for a more substantive left voice that is still entertaining can I recommend www.thisishell.net . It's radio show out of Chicago, but it gets posted online as a podcast.

You're right, partisan entertainment. But there used to be some actual research and reportage going on at Countdown. Maddow seems to have picked up that gauntlet now.
No Cenk fans here????

Thanks for the URL. I'll check it out.

That don't stop him from trying every chance he gets, though. ;)

I think Beck deliberately does wacky stuff knowing that it will get played on Countdown and Youtube. The other day Olbermann showed the clip of Beck at the chalkboard spelling the word "Oligarhy" without the c. Even if Beck is an idiot and doesn't know how to spell, certainly someone in the crew would know enough to say "Hey,..." The only conclusion that I can come to is that Beck doesn't care how people perceive him, as long as he can laugh his way to the bank.

I think Beck is experimenting to see just how extreme he can get before Fox News fires him. Apparently, it's a very high level.

D'oh. I forgot to address Olowkow's point about whether to ignore them or not. With most forms of ignorance (such as troofers, birthers, etc.) I say attack them head on. But since Beck doesn't even believe the nonsense he spews (as was evidenced in his flip-flop on the quality of health care in the U.S.) I'm tempted to ignore him and wish Olbermann would do the same.

Olbermann did some really good special comments and I think the praise went to his head. Like Beck knows he gets ratings by being ****ing insane, Olbermann knows he can get ratings by being ****ing insane.

For example, he listed Rep. Bachmann as a worst person for claiming that an editorial on her son joining Teach for America was a hit piece on him. Well, she's wrong, but he wasn't right that it was a nice piece. It was a hit piece on her because her son joined an AmeriCorps program while she was screeching about how it was liberal incdoctrination or some ****.

What happened to you Keith? You used to be cool...

Maybe when Beck stops channeling Dr. Gene Scott Keith will cut him some slack. Meanwhile, I'm finding it hilarious - I wish Rockefeller Center weren't 3000 miles away.

I knew I'd seen that schtick somewhere! Great analogy.

Any one know who the pixie with big cans filling in for Rachael tonight is?

Olbermann is now trying to find himself, and the show, now that his man has won the whitehouse.

I watch his show less, and usually only watch story #5, and #1.

Maddow is my new favorite.

Personally, I thought Olbermann quoting various psychotic screeds from famous movies was fall-on-the-floor funny.
