Yep, heard it again on the radio. There might be a lot out there still, but we can't get it out of the ground and into the petrol tank any quicker than we can now. Shell has already come a cropper because they overestimated their ability to increase flows to what they optimistically expected they could. You could say it is just because of political instability, but if you don't think that that is a reality in economics, you will have to move to Planet Economically Pure. It aint here.

Either way, the price is not going to be coming down. I can buy Chinese tools for peanuts, Chinese TVs for peanuts, Chinese DVD players for peanuts. But they still haven't opened up the cheap Chinese Oil factory.

I'm glad we are probably going to elect an energy woo-woo who blocked drilling on 2000 acres of ice covered tundra north of the tree line in a 9 MILLION acre park.

(Yes, Bush is a woo woo also on some issues, you have your pick of two of them for pres)

Actually it's 19 MILLION acres. And, if you knew anything about the Earth, you'd know that even here deserts are abundant. Here's a partial list of animals and plants which live in the area:

Animals:

American bison: Bison bison
Black bear: Ursus americanus
Dall mount. sheep: Ovis dalli
Grizzly bear: Ursus Arctos
Gwich'in Indians: Homo sapien
Inupiat Indians: Homo sapien
Killer whale: Orcinus orca
Narwhal: Monodon monoceros
Northern fur seal: Callarhinus ursinus
Northern sea lion: Eumetopias jubatus
Moose: Alces alces
Porcupine caribou: Rangafer tarandus
Sitka deer: Cervus nippon
White whale: Delphinapteris beluga

Fish:

King salmon

Plants:

Balsam poplar: P. balsamifera
Cotton wood: P. deltoids
Dwarf willow: Salix chamaetia
Paper birch: Betulaceae papyrifera
Sitka spruce: Pinaceae sitchensis
Western hemlock: Tsuga heterophylla
Western red cedar: Cupressaceae nootkatensis
White spruce: Pinaceae alba
Willow ptarmigan: Lagopus lagopus

I suppose improving the US's transport network so she's a teensy less dependant on oil (and maybe ditching those ridiculous SUV's), along with R & D into alternative energy sources, would be too much of an ask?

And when properly marinated and served with drawn butter, every one of those animals is YUMMY!!

Inupiat Indians. The village of Kaktovik is the only community in that part of Alaska. Most of the Kaktovik residents are in favor of drilling - they see the possibility of jobs, commerce, improved living conditions.

Gwich'in Indians travel through the area sometimes, but do not live there. Most Gwich'ins are not in favor of drilling - they see the possibility of disturbing their hunting and interrupting their access to the area.

There are no Sitka Deer, Bison, King Salmon, or trees on the north slope of Alaska. And you forgot to include Polar Bears.

Anyway, wide open full oil production from ANWR would provide only a few % to our oil supplies. Drilling and bringing fields on line, and construction of roads, pipelines, facilities means that 5 or 10 years will pass before full production kicks in. Prudhoe Bay and other current north slope fields are in decline, so ANWR fields may replace that production, but can not improve on it.

How many of them vote?

And to address your other textbook parrot lines, exactly what percentage of petroleum used could we expect to get back without SUVs?
In fact, how much of oil production goes to gasoline as opposed to its other ten million uses?
And how long will it take to develop a safe, affordable hydro fuel cell, compared to how long will it take to get ANWAR production up and running?

Never mind, these are all rhetorical anyway. Stick to your platitudes and soundbites, I'll stick with the realities. Have a nice day, kid.

Gosh, I never realised it was so simple! Thanks for enlightening me, Jockstrap.

It's about time someone did. So I presume you're not going to let any of those pesky, quantifiable realities get in the way of your world view? Good. We love you just as you are.

I thought you worked in advertising?

And I thought you were college educated. The difference between us, Mr. M, is that I can tell when I'm spinning bullsh*t. That, and I don't give it away for free like you do.

Then why can't you tell that you're spinning bullsh*t now?

That, and I don't give it away for free like you do.

I've heard that people'll buy anything in America.

I'm not. You're the one who wouldn't recognize bullsh*t if his mouth was full of it. I simply pointed out that your laundry list of "things wrong with America" comes right out of the useful idiot handbook, and you've done nothing to convince me to the contrary since.

I've heard that people'll buy anything in America.

Take it out on the playground, Mr. M. You'll get a more receptive audience there.

Speaking of quantifyable realities, about 45% of America's oil consumption of 20 million barrels/day in 2003 was for motor gasoline. The next highest consumption was in 'other oils' at 24%. 8.9 million barrels/day in 2003. That's a lot of gasoline, no? Any way to bring that number down a bit, do you think, Jocko?

There may be 'ten million other uses', but they don't seem to consume as much oil as motors.

Now that I've answered a question of yours, maybe you can answer one that's been on my mind for a while- why does everyone have to quantify and provide evidence for their claims except you?

Because I'm not the one stringing together a bunch of meaningless and ill-considered talking points (as your own research showed). As to my opinions on your intellect, breeding and chromosome count, well... you've provided ample evidence all around.

Have it your way. It's your credibility.
