ah a socialists meeting :D

(No, Obama is not a socialist)

We shall have to wait and see whether there is any change in Chavez' rhetoric concerning the USA, but this cannot hurt relations between the two countries a bit. That Obama is willing to deal with Chavez as a colleague and a head of state like himself has to give what we tell him more credibility.

Ball is now in Hugo's court.

I have to say that this, as well as the loosening of restrictions on Cube, has made me very happy this week. Our relationship with Latin America has been piss poor at best.

Of course, none of this means anything significant, just smiles and pleasantries, but at least he's not calling Obama the devil.

As POTUS, you sometimes have to be photographed with unsavory people when you travel abroad. It's tough but somebody has to do it.

But that's not a handshake, is it? So we're not offended by racial stereotypes anymore?

Actually that's the famed revolutionary drug brothers handshake.

I hope this is just formality. I hate to think that Obama is being fooled by these dictators he seems to be embracing.

Well, sure it's for(u)mality. Should he act like a jerk, turn his back, spit at his feet? Tell the world he's part of an axis of evil? Refuse to treat with him? Or if he does, be photographed with a sneer and cold distance?

How would that avail us in any way?

What's weird is that you are going to be labeled racist for saying that, while it's Chavez and Obama who did the racially loaded stereotypical handshake.

Boah Hannity and Steele are pretty pissed that Obama bent over to Dictator Chavez

Hannity's anger and Obama's performance are correlated. The better Obama does, the angrier he gets. So, go Hannity!

Actually my terming it the revolutionary drug brothers handshake isn't about race at all; it's a gag I stole from Hunter Thompson. Pot-smoking hippies in the early 1970s all did that thumb clasp well before it became a "black thing" (at least, I assume it was before, I don't really know). IIRC Thompson dubbed it the revolutionary drug brothers handshake in Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail.

That's funny because I see it the other way around.

I hate to think chavez and ghaddafi are fooled by the color of this guys skin.

They are embracing this guy.

They're starting to believe the lies and rhetoric.

Don't believe the hype.

I'm trying to figure out who is the greater moron, Steele or Hannity. Clearly, neither of these people are capable of reporting phenommena occurring in this time/space continuum.

It is rare for one man to so clearly make as many false statements as Hannity did in the first two minutes of the clip. How can anyone talk that long without uttering an actual fact?

For Hannity it is all clear. soon its the Bolivarian republic of the United States of America.

It's a crazy little thing called "diplomacy."

For all those conservatives out there who are sure to have a conniption fit over this, let me ask you this: When Nixon met with Brezhnev, did he shake his hand? How about Regan and Gorbachev? If so, where were the screams of indignation when these defenders of free-markets and Americana would dare to touch the hands of these filthy Communists?

Or is it only objectionable when the President isn't a Republican?

And no, I'm not a fan of Chavez, or Ortega, or Castro. I think they're tyrants and ideological bullies, but acting like an ass just to fulfill some jingoistic, flag-waving devotion to American freedom is moronic.

Isn't that a mormon, handshake? :P

Gotta love how he gets away with just flat out making stuff up. Obama "is blaming america for the world's ills"... When did this happen, Shawn?

That sounds like some kind of law.
