Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for seance remark
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan on Friday to apologize for a remark about seances he made during his first news conference earlier in the day.

President-elect Barack Obama's spokeswoman syas he apologized to Nancy Reagan for "offhanded remark."

When a reporter asked Obama if he had spoken with any ex-presidents since his election on Tuesday, he responded that he had spoken to all former presidents "that are living."

"I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about, you know, doing any seances," he said.

He then called Nancy to apologize.

While it's good to know Obama won't be relying on psychics, seances or even direct divine revelation, I share Bob Park's reservations:

Bob Park said:
What we need to know is who Obama will turn to for advice. As President, he can call on any scientist in the country, and the time to do it is right now. We’d feel even better if Obama were to signal his intention to elevate his science advisor to cabinet rank. We could suggest about a thousand scientists who would do a good job, but it wouldn’t help if Obama ignores his science advisor.

I thought it was a funny comment--of course, I also agree with the sentiment--but he was right to apologize. Families are off limits for jokes by the candidates, and as such it was in poor taste.

Imagine that. A president who makes an error--an etiquette error at that--and apologizes. I sure hope our enemies don't see this as a sign of weakness. Maybe he could make up for it by holding a show trial and then executing Bush, Rumsfield, and Cheney. ;)

That'd make the 9/11 wackos really unhappy, they want to have the privilege of doing that.

Except for Sarah Palin, for some in this forum.

Yes, it was a funny comment, but not a comment a president should do. I guess he's gonna need some time to get used to it, he's no longer an ordinary citizen.
