Congressman Peter King Says Society Is "Glorifying" a "Low-Life"

(AP) A New York congressman says in a YouTube video that Michael Jackson was a "pervert."

Rep. Peter King said society is "glorifying" a "low-life" while ignoring the efforts of teachers, police officers, firefighters, veterans and volunteers.

...

He conceded that Jackson "may have been a good singer" and "did some dancing."

Edited to add: Damn! I forgot to enable multiple choice voting! Could one of you mods please enable it?

If there's truth in the unproven accusation that he diddled kids, Congressman King is right.

His opinion is a gamble on that possibility... but politicians are great at grandstanding: in this case, slinging mud at a dead man and using it as an opportunity to praise public servants, a thing politicians love to do.

Dunno, never was interested in his Private live, but his dancing was pervertly good.

The only antidote to Al Sharpton's shamelessly self-promoting grandstanding is... more grandstanding.

Was he a pervert? Sure.

Is that automatically a bad thing - not at all. Does that mean he sexually-abused children? No.

Yeah, King is grandstanding, but I agree that this rush to promote somebody who managed to totally screw up his life as some kind of model to America needs some counterbalance. ANd that is leaving the Child Molestation issue out of it.

As an individual, I have not seen that, did some of his people do some highly improper things? sure.

And this is totally off topic

as an individual , i have not seen MJ abuse any children, and from the news i heard he was not spoken guilty in court. maybe something is wrong with your law system or he is not a child abuser.

I don't know about your legal system but ours is based on the idea that it is better for the guilty to go free than for the innocent to be punished.

So even if there is no conviction that does not mean that it is not likely that he did it.

i dont know, i wouldnt call him a pervert or child abuser, but would not leave him with my kids if i had any i know of.

I have yet to see any convincing evidence that he molested any children.

Granted, i haven't researched it much(spend a few hours reading different stuff, that's about it).

You are more than welcome to provide evidence that convince me.

NOTE: leaving for tam tomorrow, so if i don't reply to any evidences, it isn't because i'm just asking questions and then ignoring the answers.

Apparently, Rep. King and the Rev. Al have a history of taking potshots at each other back in New York. This could be fun..two grandstanders trying to out showboat each other.

As someone who believes Michael Jackson at the very least had innapropriate relationships with children, and was just an all-around weirdo, I think King is wrong. Jackson's art is what is being celebrated, not the fact that he might have been a pervert. Just like I think O.J Simpson is a murderer who still deserves to have his athletic accomplishments acknowledged, I think it's possible to celebrate the life of man who made an undeniable contribution to modern culture without necessarily endorsing the more bizarre parts of his personal life.

Agreed, but some of the praise of Jackson I have been hearing is way over the top. Sorry, I don't think he broke any great barriers and as far as music goes, he did not have the impact on popular music that Elvis or the Beatles did. He was hugely talented, wrote some great songs, and was a great dancer, but I just don't see his music as a Game Changer the way the Elvis or The Beatles were.

I don't think it's possible. Or appropriate, considering that it's just the creepy pervy guy who actually died and is gone now, while all that wonderful music of his is still around and will continue to be for a long time.

Personally I don't understand this fetish of looking to the State to have a say in every aspect of our community life. Why do we need a Court of Law to decide for us, as a community, whether or not Michael Jackson was a wholesome, trustworthy person? Are we incapable of figuring things out for ourselves?
