Nuns remains-crowd grabber!

Saints' relics and holy remains are an ancient form of popular veneration. It was particularly important in the Middle Ages, when people would make lengthy pilgrimages to view such relics in hopes of receiving the blessing of the saint or martyr on display. I understand there are different classes of relics, from bones and blood to clothes and books to objects that have been touched by the holy person.

The belief is still practiced today, as evidenced by the link in the OP. Christianity (specifically Catholicism), Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism all have reliquary beliefs and veneration.

Yuck! I live within walking distance of York Minster but I won't be making a special trip to gawp at a dead nun.

Queues are not consistently long. If you avoid peak hours it is unlikely you would have to wait long.
