OK, so I heard this program on BBC Radio 4 about Climate Change. It made the claim that most people don't really know how much global average temperatures have increased in the last 100 years. So I wanted to do an unscientific poll of my own.

Please don't Google the answer, just your best guess of the top of your head, or the answer if you know it.

it shouldn't be fixed. just post a hello in whatever thread it takes you to. mention the poll too.

in my case it took me to:

Poll: Australian Opposition Leader- Clinton Plagarist?

thread

It seems we have all the votes we are going to get.

I am going to take the official answer from Wiki, which is 0.6%, or for this survey "about 0.5%".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_temperature_record

Of the 19 repsondents, a little under half knew the answer. Another 7 were pretty close, with 4 some way away.

I must admit that I don't know whether the outliers are spurious or not.

This sample is probably better informed than the average populous, but for what it is worth, I wouldn't say that this result is consistent with the Radio 4 claim. Most people here at least are close enough to the facts.
