Can Norton Ghost 2003 copy my 40 GB hard drive (with XP on it) and transfer the whole lot to another say 160 GB hard drive?
If so I presume the 'new' hard drive can replace the original and the PC will boot from it with everything runnuing as it did prior to the change (all settings applications etc)??

I've used ghost corporate edition extensively, I doubt they're that much different.

Yes, it will copy your entire 40GB hard drive to your 140 GB hard drive. You may have to use the GHOST -NTIL option so it will ignor ehte NT log, and when it boots the first time it may give you some warnings. After that it should work wonderfully.

What's the NTIL option? What's the NT log?

Quite important!

I just did this very thing, in fact. I considered using Ghost, but am too skinflintish to buy it. I used NTBackup (had to install it from my XP installation CD), and copied my entire C drive onto my larger D drive, making sure I checked the "System State" box.

Then I fitted the new drive and did a clean install of Windows, and ran NTBackup to restore my old version afterwards. A glitch meant I had to run a Setup Repair against it, and thus reapply Service Pack 2 - but the whole thing was still done in the space of a morning. And didn't cost me a penny, and I didn't have to find a working floppy drive (which I believe - correct me if I'm wrong - I would have required for Ghost). I was quite pleased with the result.

If you had a normal shutdown then ghosting without the log is no big deal.

If you're technically inclined your plan works well. But for those folks that aren't, or would rather not chance it, then Ghost 2003 is worth the $12 [/QUOTE]

Ghost 2003 has a windows interface.

Well I bought it and 'cloning' was what I required apparently. Ghost cloned my hard drive and the new hard drive booted up with the cloned image no problem. I thought I may have had some XP activation difficulties but no so I reckon £10 well spent.
