... on my PC.

If I play a video clip I get no sound. Also, when I try to play iTunes, nothing happens - that is, the track (or CD) doesn't run through the song. (It's as if it's on pause.)

I go to:

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Device Properties

And it tells me "No Audio Device". But I haven't changed anything and it used to work (I have speakers attached). Do you think my sound card is blown?

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this problem before.

Could be a blown device. Have you tried to do a hardware search?
(Control panel/Install new hardware/ Autosearch for hardware)
The "add hardware wizard" seems to show everything is working. What would I be looking for specifically?

Go to device manager (right-click My Computer and select Manage) and see if there are any unidentified devices. If so, right-click and choose Update Driver, and find the driver through the usual way.

If there are not, shut down the machine, take out the soundcard (if you have one) and put it back in again. If it's still not detected, you could try it in another machine, but chances are that it's dead. If you have onboard sound (i.e. no separate soundcard), then your options are fairly limited.

Cheers,
Rat.

As well as this I'd boot into Safe Mode (Tap F8 when booting up), and recheck Device manager. I don't know what version of Windows you're using but 98\ME had a horrible problem of making up new hardware to add.

If it is an onboard soundcard then a quick look in the BIOS to make sure it's enabled. If you've got a soundcard and an onboard sound chip then make sure the onboard is disabled in the BIOS

Finally download Driver Cleaner and your latest soundcard drivers. Follow the instructions for DC to get rid of all the old (and possibly corrupted) driver files, cancel any auto install that windows tries and then instal the proper drivers
