No Java

I've run so many freaking anti-spyware programs and anti-virus programs and system security website checks on my computer lately, it will no longer run Java no matter what I try.

Before anyone asks, I've played with my internet options. I even checked the lowest security option just to see if Java would run. I turned off my POW! and my ZoneAlarm and the Google anti-popup software, all at the same time.

Nothing.

I am so sick of constantly having to tinker with my computer and having to have umpteem software programs running just so I can move about on the freaking internet without some a-hole sending me a virus or popping an ad on my screen.

You could always fall back on Mozilla running on OpenVMS, Alpha-powered. No antivirus required...

I know, I know - Bill doesn't market it, and it is "old hat". But it is also impregnable!

Have you tried installing a java package from sun, instead of microsoft's crappy java implemetation?

Why would you want to run Java?

Outside of the fact that it's required for a class I'm taking, I would never have it on my box.

When I visit some websites, they run Java, and all I get is a black box with a little colored square in the corner.

I know, the one I'm respnding to is a joke post, but LukeT *could* try installing Mozilla on his Windows machine and install a Java plugin (see www.mozilla.org for more information).

Heck, even Windows users should be using Mozilla these days.

For some reason Micrososoft Virtual Machine stopped on my computer, too.

I think one of the recent MS updates may have screwed it up.

I already had Sun Java on my computer as the Java handler for Mozilla, so i just set IE to use Sun Java, also.

Heck, even Windows users should be using Mozilla these days.

It's NOT a joke, actually - there IS a new Mozilla for OpenVMS that is pretty darn good - recommended by the OpenVMS vendor (currently HP).

But you will be pleased to know that on my Windoze platforms I personally use Firebird (the Mozilla cut-down browser) at home and work instead of IE these days - a few little funnies in it but otherwise it's pretty cool!
