What if the unthinkable happened and Dave SarumanCameron failed to become PM; would he join IDS and William Vague as another nearly man? Or would the Conservatives see him as the wronged party and back him to the hilt?

Good God, no idea. There's literally nobody there is there (I'll wait for the poll if it is coming).

Fancy man Zac will probably be leader one day.

You forgot Bumbling Boris Johnson. No doubt enjoying 'Dave's' discomfort immensely.

Well now that Boris' younger brother has got himself elected there'd be scope for a Johnson double act.

Now if only pater Johnson had stood and we got the triumvirate...What could possibly go wrong?

Well, perhaps the Conservatives thought they were close to a deal, then Brown comes along and pulls the rug from under their feet.

Oddly enough we were just talking about this eventuality in the pub last night. If Cameron doesn't get a deal, and soon, it's odds-on that the knives will be out for him. The Tories aren't exactly strangers to patricide. The fact that there's no reasonable successor isn't necessarily an impediment (see: John Major). If he has to run a minority government there's going to be a lot of very unhappy Tory MPs around.

I suppose it depends on whether the mood swings in the direction of "Dave's fault for not winning well enough I never liked the way he called himself that either it's parliament not the damned football terraces" or "Brown's fault for not losing properly damn his eyes, has he no sense of propriety?".

The mood held that it seemed likely that Cameron is going to sort something out; I would not be surprised to see that the Lib Dems stick to their guns and walk away to let him sink.

No.

No. No. No.

Watching him try to wave that flag at the China Olympics was embarassing enough - watching him attempt to actually talk about real politics?
No - spare us that.

The daily politics show is on now, apparently senior Tory figures are calling this a save dave campaign and there are grumblings that cameron only managed to add 4 percent more than howard- he is gone if the tories dont get in.

Watching it now - Andrew Neil is being a bit of an arse, quite frankly.

I usually quite like him but agree with your assessment. What i do find funny is all the reporters seem to totally misunderstand the fptp system when there isnt a clear winner

What do you mean "is being"? Andrew Neil is a total idiot. The fact that the most sensible, well informed and likeable person on "This Week" is Michael Portillo should speak volumes about that.

As for Boris....Oh please. Let it be Boris. That would kill the Tories off completely.

They could put in a sillier character - say the Honey Monster or Rupert the Bear... no on second thoughts Boris Johnson is sillier than both of those.

Go Boris! Boris for Tory Leader!

With the announcement that Cameron is now the PM, what will change in the near term? (Less than six months)
In the near to mid term (six to 30 months)
In mid to long term (30-60 months)
In the long term? (Beyond 60 months)
To the last I expect "too early to tell" but for the other three, what are you estimates?
