Hey guys. New JREF member, new to the forum, and new to TAM.

Help me out here guys. I need some direction on what to wear and what to do when the convention is done at the end of each day.

Are these "strip crawls" and chocolate open to the public or is there some horribly embarassing initiation involved? (If so, sign me up ;) ).

Keep in mind my girlfriend and I are in our early twenties. I guess that means Wayne Newton is out (kidding).

Clothes will be fine. Optional, even.

Such a tough time, deciding what to do in Vegas.... It's not a problem, you'll find enough people to explore with.

Everything's open, except the Skepchicks PJ party - for some undisclosed reason, that's XX-chromosomes only.

People usually form smaller groups (We'd be clogging the strip, if all 400 went in one batch).

Never heard of him.

Your enthusiasm for TAM mirrors my own! This will be my first TAM, but my understanding is that casual clothing is fine during the day. At evening for going out/dining, maybe a nice pair of slacks and open shirt, no tie (?).

I need to figure out a way of getting popular so I'm not the weird creepy guy in the corner.

Hmmm...........................is streaking allowed?

Bluejeans & T-Shirt during the day. Bluejeans & T-Shirt at night.

We will all be weird creepy guys in the corner. One of the corners will be occupied by Shermer... :D

XX-chromosome only.

First off, the weird creepy guy spot is taken by The Central Scrotumizer.

Second, streaking should be limited to after conference hours. Actually, let me restate that... steaking is encouraged, but should be limited to after conference hours.

Third, and sincerely, there's a thread way way back in this subfora for posting your photo before attending TAM II. Bump it by posting your photo to it. Also, on your credential necklace, write your user ID in big bold letters.

I have done both of my third recommendations at TAM and TAM II, but still was able to remain low key enough to avoid meeting people until Sunday so I can't vouch, myself, for how effective they are.

What do most people wear at the TAM ball night thingy? Most skepchicks doing the fishnets? I don't know if I like the fishnet idea, but willing to at least try it.

Trying not to get nervous. I just an email from the travel company that my flight will be in even later on the 12th, around 11 pm. Sighs. Being new to this and coming in later than planned isn't helping.

How far is the airport from the Stardust?

Wear whatever you'll feel most comfortable wearing. Short dress and fishnets or jeans and a baggy sweater. Your presence is more important than your appearance.

You'll probably find people from the forum in the Stardust somewhere even at your arrival time. The Strip is about 10 to 30 minutes from the airport depending on your taxi/shuttle option. Even if you don't catch up with anyone on the 12th, get a good night's sleep - because you won't be getting much the rest of the weekend - and you'll catch up with forum members on the 13th. You're a skepchick... even if you don't recognize people, they will recognize you.

What "ball night thingy"? Unless the skepchicks are planning something special, I don't recall anyone wearing much more than jeans last year.

There's nothing official happening on the 12th, so I wouldn't worry about missing anything.

I'm not sure where on the strip the Stardust is, but the airport is very close. In that, you could literally walk if you didn't have luggage. My cab ride from the hotel to the airport last yeat was $5. So it's probably a mile or two tops. Don't waste your time on one of those $5 van rides - you could get lucky and be at your hotel in 5 minutes, or be the last person dropped of and it taking an hour. Get a cab or look for a Stardust van, if they have one.

I second most of what the two previous posters said.

Last year, 8 or 10 of us met in the lobby (is lobby the correct term?) to chat. I arrived at the Tuscany around 11 PM, and we sat there until at least 2 AM.

I didn´t get a single good night´s sleep in Vegas, but it didn´t show. I slept for 15 hours straight once I was at home, though.

You lucky Bastard. I arrived around noon, and since I couldn't find the vans right away but ended up in the line waiting for a cab, I took one of those. Since it was rather busy, it took a bit longer than 5 minutes and I ended up paying the guy 12$ or something ... :(

One thing to warn people about... if you're going outside at night, you may want to wear more than just a T-shirt. It can get rather cool once the sun goes down.

Wimp. ;)

After reading all of this, if there is one I CAN come to (grumble, mumble, this time it's a standards meeting) I will come as somebody nobody knows. :)

Wait, now you have me confused! Isn't TAM 3 is Vegas again?

Welcome.

There was a party last time, on Saturday. I'm assuming there will be one again at TAM3?

I was darn hoping anyways :D

Aha! It's Friday:

Thursday night: Skepchicks PJ Party!
Friday night: Chocolate Challenge and Forum party!
Saturday night after seeing Lance Burton: The Strip Crawl (new TAM3 activity)

Woohoo! So it was Friday night I was wondering what to wear, and Saturday now too. I did get the Burton tickets.

EOS, the Stardust is a fair distance up Las Vegas Boulevard, in the older part of the Strip, so a van ride, while cheaper, will probably take you awhile as other folks will be getting dropped off at the newer, more fashionable hotels...taxi will cost you some dinero, my guess is $15-18 depending on the type of tipper you are.

Ah, here is a map showing the location of the Stardust on the Strip (#9)

Of course, I am arriving on the 11th and will have a van, so if you ask me verrryyy nicely if may be prevailed upon to pick you up...;) ;) ;)
