to the best of my memory, this just showed up as a foxnews commerical

"Did you know that many evangelical organizations are concerned about global warming? We are chosen as stuards of the earth. For the earth, for the lord, stop global warming".

I hesitate at the dilimma some of our forum members may face with this one.

Edit to add: IT's TRUE!

"Stuards"? That "Stuarts" or "stewarts"? Is the front gate to Traquair open again yet? Or did you mean stewards? If so, well, at least their heart is in the right place and they aren't in denial.

Yes, I know it's true. As I mentioned in another thread, some religious folks are becoming more environmentally conscious and socially responsible. This is a positive trend that should be welcomed by everyone. I'm not anymore nervous about this development than when religious groups come out to oppose the teaching of creationism because both evolution and global warming are backed up by sound science. See for instance the National Academy of Sciences website. I feel more embarrassed by people like you, and other so-called "skeptics", self-proclaimed defenders of science who are beholden to an a priori political agenda.

Many of the hard-core "born-agains", unfortunately, dismiss environmental concerns on the grounds that, f***, Jesus is going to come within their lifetime, so why bother? Also, you misspelled "steward." But then, it seems as though you try to get just about everything wrong.

What dilemma? If AGW is true, it's true, no matter what evangelical's think about the matter.

I think a more likely explanation is that religious people who are already environmentalists are simply becoming more vocal about it.

Do you actually have any substantive criticism of the OP?

Yes, Art, explain it away, explain it away.

Why should he have any?

Wow, you can twist anything to seem sinister, can't you?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you are confused by that. It's not like lack of having anything of value to say has kept you from posting.

High praise indeed, but to get back to substance (sort of) ...

This "What would Jesus Drive?" things has been building for a while, and it may be opening up a new front for the GOP. Stewardship, rather than stewing, of creation might have some appeal in the religious market which they've recently dominated.

Keep in mind all that this 'evangelical' commericial differed from all others I have ever seen...

It had no "brought to you by" tag at the end.

What do you suppose that means?

What do you suspect it means? That "brought to you by" is a bit of a turn-off?

I suspect it means that it wasn't "brought to you by" any evangelical group any evangelical group would recognize.

I could be mistaken...but if not...

I have to assume that an evangelical group would recognise itself as an evangelical group. Even if there were only two of them.

Is the term "brought to you by ... " only used by evangelical groups? Isn't there some kind of electoral law requirement that prompts it?
