New Computer - Slow Scrolling

So I started a new job recently, and I just got my new laptop.

What I've noticed is that it takes forever to scroll through pages, either on Internet Explorer or Microsoft Excel.

If I press the direction keys to move down a page, the screen only seems to move chunks at a time, and really slowly. It is taking much longer to navigate through an Excel file because of this. Anybody know why this would happen?

I've seen this when using the default video driver in Windows. Check with manufacturer for an updated video driver.

Not sure if this related since you mention using the direction keys, however I've noticed the same symptom on a couple of new machines over the last 6 months. In my case it was because the generic XP mouse driver had been installed. I loaded the latest one from Microsoft (for the Intellimouse Explorer, in this case) and scrolling (at least, using the mouse wheel) returned to its correct speed and feel.

That would be my guess, too. right click on the desktop, go to properties, Settings, and see what the display is called.

Then again, if it is a cheap laptop, it could have the cheapest, slowest video chip, as well.
