Need to create a blog

Since I'm in Japan for a year, instead of constantly sending emails with photos, I thought a blog would be a lot easier to deal with.

What's a really good blog out there? Preferrably, if it has the ability to have visitors leave comments, it'll have that thing where they have to type in displayed letters/numbers to keep spammers from polluting it with ads.

Does blogger.com fit the bill? I would prefer a site that I can upload a good amont of photos too (not one where your maximum photo storage is 1Mb).
 
Blogger.com is fine for this (you can use flickr or picasa to store the photos)

I prefer Wordpress.com because it has a better interface.

I use both Blogger.com and Wordpress.com. Both of them have the anti-spamcomment thing. Wordpress has the edge, primarily because of the excellent skins and interface. But the photo limit on Worpress.com is 25MB, while the Blogger limit is 300MB. So Blogger is probably the best for you.
 
Yes, anyone can sign up. I just signed up 4 days ago. I figure I can use it to keep track of various events that I forget about later.

An interesting feature on blogger is if you keep hitting "next blog" at the top you can find all sorts of stuff. The most common is: the "AUGH! HORRIBLE INTERFACE!!" blog. I've also run across more 'porn' and 'advertisement' blogs than I'd like to see...

Hmmm, I might need to check that out (and I don't mean the advertisement blogs")
 
What if they're porn advertisement blogs?

I used Blogger for a while; it works reasonably well. The only thing that irritated me was that there was no way to select and delete multiple blog entries. You had to delete them one at a time, which takes a bit of time since it has to republish the blog every delete.
 
I use blogger, it's great except I can't figure out how to get 'next' and 'back' arrows at the top of the page so people can browse without me listing the entries a month at a time.
