My TOP 10 Reasons to Go To NECSS 2014

(version 1.0)

10. The BIGGEST PROBLEM I have with it, this year, is choosing between the two different, (supposedly) mutually exclusive pre-con Workshop tracks! And, if that's the case, this thing MUST be REALLY good!

9. The T-shirts will, supposedly, be very cool and creative. At least in theory.

8. It is closer than TAM and Dragon Con, at least for those of us in the New York/New England area.

7. It is more of a REAL conference than that meager SkeptiCamp that NYCS also puts on. (Well, SkeptiCamp is also awesome in its own way, of course.)

6. There is a good line-up of speakers: A few favorites and a few I never heard in person before, but should be good. I don't spot any losers in the bunch, yet.

5. I get to add to my Astronaut Collection! That is: My collection of astronaut autographs, of course. (I'm not a serial astronaut kidnapper.)

4. George Hrab

3. All of my friends will be there!!! (Well, all of my friends were also at SkeptiCamp. Though, since I had hosting duties, I didn't get to interact with them much.)

2. Drinking Skeptically usually has a good crowd. But, the Pre-NECESS Drinking Skeptically crowd is the BEST Drinking Skeptically crowd!

1. SCIENCE!!! Duh!

Hopefully, they'll be as nice as the shirts in years past. I have this fear they'll ugly-fy them, thus making them closer to TAM shirts (which seem to get uglier every year).

Hopefully it won't get canceled like that one always does.

As with the other conferences, full info is entered into Lanyrd here: http://lanyrd.com/2014/necss/

You can get that in your Smartphone via an app, feed it into your calendar and so on. Click on each guest to learn more about them and see their prior conference presentations, often with video.

If you log into the site, mark that you are attending, and set your email settings you can get emails automatically when any details change.

They are supposedly being designed by cartoonist Maki Naro. I'll let you decide what that means.

You seem to get uglier every year, too.

In fact, they almost put your face on a TAM T-shirt, but then they said "Whoa! Even we have our limits!"

Hopefully it won't get canceled like that one always does.
You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it does.

We'll probably have the SkeptiCamp 2013 poster hanging on display during NECSS 2014, like we usually do.

So even in 2011 you had the 2013 poster hanging?
Well, for NECSS 2011, we didn't even have our own poster. We had the general one Reed Esau (the founder of SkeptiCamp) provided, and it had to be mailed back to him when SkeptiCamp 2010 was over, so we couldn't hang it up at NECSS.

For SkeptiCamp 2011, he stopped mailing out posters. So, I started getting our own NYC-specific posters printed up, so they could be hung at other events, such as NECSS and such.

And, they are signed by everyone who attended SkeptiCamp that year. Or, at least those who wanted to sign it. A few chose not to, for some reason.

I didn't see any signatures. Probably because Skepticamp had been canceled.

I am now registered!

And, I am in the market for a roommate. I got a non-smoking room, about 5 SHORT blocks from the venue.

And, since I got a great deal on it, your half of the payment would likely be a lot less than if you booked any room in the area on-line.

And no, it's NOT a roach motel.

Is it a roach motel?
