CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is fond of quoting a particular passage of Scripture. The quote, however, does not appear in the Bible and is "fictional," according to biblical scholars.

In her April 22 Earth Day news release, Pelosi said, "The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.' On this Earth Day, and every day, let us pledge to our children, and our children's children, that they will have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature."

No one seems to know which verse she's talking about.

A politician using religion to stir the masses to give her more power? WTF

Never hoida sucha ting.

"God wants you to authorize me to create intrusive, expensive environmental business regulations minister to His creation, for the purpose of getting these businesses to donotate to my campaign so I'll slow down a bit honoring His love for us."

Perhaps her own personal copy? Since most Christians don't seem to take their beliefs from any of the more mainstream versions for the Christian Bible I can't see what additional harm it does for someone to just make up a new verse that suits their belief.

What are the mainstream versions of the Christian Bible?

What are you basing the word "most" off? Is there a sociological study done where they took down bible use statistics? If so, please link. I'd find that interesting.

I, for one, welcome our pseudo-Christian overlords ....

PS bible quote?: God helps those who help themeselves

You said most Christians don't get their beliefs from the mainstream bibles.

What versions of the bible do they get their beliefs from?

What study / information are you using to be able to use the word "most"?

I have to back up CS's point of using the word 'most' here and there without thinking about it. I do it a lot, and my girlfriend points it out to me every time. Other favorites of mine are; everytime, always, never,... these extremes shouldn't be used without back up evidence.

None.

You are joking?

Shoulda quoted Ezekiel 25:17 instead.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Perhaps we heretics should start quoting what the bible does say. That should deconvert a lot of people.

Where do they get their beliefs from?

The same "place" as everyone else, society, culture, human behaviour and so on of course. Is this really such a contentious point for you?

Even to narrow the word "belief" to just the religious beliefs of people who say they are "Christians" my statement should still have been one of those to be frank blatantly obvious ones - sort of like saying "most people have noses". Personally it's not something that I tend to demand evidence for since I tend to take those statements as being as obvious as the nose on your face!

Sorta. ;)

For those that don't recognize it, it's a line from Pulp Fiction (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/quotes). Funny how many people didn't realize it's mostly made up. Last line is at least close. Realizing it's not accurate the "finder of lost children" bit seems kind of obvious.

A Prophecy Against Philistia
15 "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice in their hearts, and with ancient hostility sought to destroy Judah, 16 therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am about to stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Kerethites and destroy those remaining along the coast. 17 I will carry out great vengeance on them and punish them in my wrath. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I take vengeance on them.' "

Pelosi is missing more than a bible verse.. a couple cans fell out of her six-pack some time ago.

Not only has she annoyed secular people who don't appreciate mixing religion with politics, but Christian fundies as well who don't appreciate making up Bible verses.

Way to go, Nancy!
