Nancy Grace redux

I have nothing to add to the general discussion on the legal status of psychic investigators or the constitution. I just wanted to express the fact that I loathe Nancy Grace. And that was before finding out that, on top of being shrill and irritating and serving no visible purpose, she goes for psychics.

You may return to highbrow legal discussions.

I am glad you started this thread. I almost felt psychic when seeing her picture today, because after seeing her disgusting display yesterday (when interviewing the Jackson trial jury foreman), I thought, "Maybe I should start a Nancy Grace thread because I haven't seen her mentioned at JREF yet."

In the short time I've been aware of her, I cannot stand her. Ol' crooked nose put me over the edge yesterday...I will simply ignore her from now on, checking back only infrequently to see if she's changed her ways at all.

(If you're wondering about the crooked nose comment: Her nose isn't crooked per se; it's just aiming at a different angle from the rest of her face. I have such a nose myself, and while that doesn't give me license to make fun of someone for their nose, let me say that what I'm really making fun of is how she's always angling her face when looking at the camera, apparently to hide the fact that her nose points somewhere else. Brian Williams doesn't hide it, but Nancy tries. For that, she's fair game AFAIAC.)

Nancy Grace makes me want to gag. Her opinionated attitude on Court TV drives me so nuts that I now refuse to watch if she's on.

I'll be very glad this Friday when her picture goes away from Randi's homepage.

Nancy Grace's psychics

I have to say I feel the same about Nancy Grace and she's one of the reasons I've all but stopped watching TV. I gave her the benefit of the doubt for quite a while: she has a strong record of convictions in child molestation cases, and I sympathized with her reason for getting into law--the senseless killing of her fiance for five dollars.

But then I was appalled at her infomercial for psychics on Larry King before she had her own show. If you didn't see that, you really missed something. That was several months ago so she's been at it a while.

I'd like to hear forum members' dissection of what she and her guests actually claimed on her recent show, as recorded in the transcript link Randi provided in this week's commentary:

Wow

Am I the only one who likes Nancy Grace? She is fiesty and has gumption. She is a strong advocate for victims. I'm sure her politics do not match mine and she probably supports the drug war and prohibition in principle - both of which I think are abominations and the sources of great evil, but I still like her. I do strongly support the rights of people accused of crimes - that is fundamental and I find it dishonest to complain about the "rights of criminals", when people are really referring to the rights of the accused. On the other, I believe criminals - those who have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt to be guilty of a crime - are the bad guys and our concerns should be reserved for those who are the victims of their crimes. I think she is wrong about things from time to time, but I don't think she is willfully wrong the way Bill O'Reilly, for example, is 90% of the time.

No, Billydkid, you are not the only one who likes Nancy Grace. I don't, but I do admire her tough stand on criminals.

Even though I contributed to the "attack on the person" instead of attacking her claims--a stance that we are supposed to avoid when discussing religion and skepticism, I think it's regrettable that we've done that instead of critiquing what she and her guests claimed on the show, which would do the most good. A believer looking in on this forum would wonder why we haven't done that, and suspect it's because the claims were a little tricky for us. It can be read via the link Randi provided on his commentary.

I'll contribute as well if there's interest.

I like tough stands on criminals too.

I don't like people who are jerks about it (as NG was to the Jackson jury foreman) and I don't like people who posture themselves as NG does.

Plus the way she angles her glare into the camera just bugs me. :)

NG is about NG.

Yes. :)

(Seriously - actually, no, apparently, she is quite popular, another sign of what's wrong with the media and people in general.)

She is fiesty and has gumption.

The same can be said for many people, but it doesn't make them right or good.

She is a strong advocate for victims. I do find myself agreeing with her on victims' rights vs. defense attorneys' smoke-screens, but I still hate her attitude, her demeanor, the way she thinks she - and only she - is right. She will just ignore any points that someone makes that don't match up to her own point of view, cutting off anyone who disagrees with her. She is shrill and abusive to those she disagrees with and sucks up to those she does. I can't stand her, and I'm glad to see I'm not alone.

Well said, wolfgirl!

I see that her picture is gone from the main page, but the new image seems to describe her demeanor perfectly!

I see I'm not the only one who is irritated by this annoying habit of hers. It's as if she is more concerned with how she looks on camera than with what she is saying. Or maybe she does that in order to show both of her faces. I agree that wolfgirl's comments were dead on. That pretty much sums her up.

She's a witch. Wouldn't suprise me if she literally were a witch, too, holding black sabbath's during the full moon, sacrificing babies and conjuring the devil (yes that's getting a bit personal but in her case its deserved).

The way she treats a lot of her guests, they could qualify as victims. And its not like she just goes after the loopier ones. Most people who disagrees with her seems to get pretty nasty treatment for her. I guess that's what gets the ratings, judging by the success of her show.
