The deep sea broad spectrum sounds recorded in the summer of 1997, commonly refered to as "the Bloop", now appears to have had their origins tracked down.

Much speculation about what could have generated these sounds have gone on for more than a decade, and NOAA scientists may or may not have been misquoted, saying that the sound was animal in origin. According to the newly updated official NOAA page about "the Bloop", it was ice all along.

It looks like a bunch of updates have been made. Julia, Slow Down and Train are now all credited to ice.

Seems like a reasonable explanation to me. I haven't heard much talk about these sounds among the nutters of these boards, but I happened to see one of those "documentaries" they sometimes show on Animal Planet (think it's called Animal X) about crypto-zoology the other night, and the host made the bold proclamation that it was known to science that the sound was coming from an animal. That seemed to me a bit too incredible to be true, so I checked with NOAA, and lo and behold, the "documentary" host was dead wrong.

But which cryptoid was shaking the ice?

Eh I suspect its more that due to global warming we are getting more ice noise events we now have enough data to pin down the source.

We still don't know what whistle was.

Bioduck is probably whale noises of some type (would be nice to know as it is probably what some UFO/CT mob call quackers).

I can see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unexplained_sounds getting a lot shorter.
