Sorry, thyroid disorders are a pain and diagnosis is tricky. They are a rule out for some mental health issues as well.

Before being treated for depression, you should be certain that there's nothing else causing the symptoms. If your thyroid is jacked up, you will feel down and sluggish and unmotivated. You don't want to start swallowing antidepressants or spend a couple of years in psychotherapy when the problem was really your thyroid all along.
 
My mother's low thyroid function went undiagnosed for many years (perhaps 10 years) while a psychiatrist attempted to treat her with various drugs. After the psychiatrist died, my mother got a physical exam.
