OK - so it's my 666th post and I thought I ought to find something religion-shattering for this celebration, but alas....
I've read about folks looking for comets, super-novae, and other celestial signs that announced the birth of JC, and caused the wise men to visit with pressies, but have now realised that this was completely the wrong approach.
I've worked out what actually happened!
As we all know, JC was born in Bethlehem - or not, so I'll assume this is correct for the moment.
He was born in stables attached to an inn, apparently.
So what was His "father" going to do first of all? Have a few drinks in the inn, and hand around the cigars, of course.
Then what? Well, as JC rather inconveniently got Himself born at Christmas, it was probably a few days later when Joseph went into the town and put the announcement in the local newspaper.
You know, something like, "On 25th December, to Joseph (Ha!) & Mary, a boy child was born, to be named Immanuel - or Jesus H Christ, whatever. Mary claims that He's the son of God, so all of you sinners - watch this space!"
Therefore, the wise men read it in the Behlehem Star! So simple, when you come to think about it - I'm sure Occam would be proud of me.
Now I need to think about my next challenge.....
