Chernobyl-damaged kids supposedly healthier, smarter.

THE Chernobyl nuclear disaster has spawned a generation of ‘mutant’ super-brainy children.

Kids growing up in areas damaged by radiation from the plant have a higher IQ and faster reaction times, say Russian doctors.

They are also growing faster and have stronger immune systems.

COOL! Real X-Men! Maybe this will lead to a race of superhumans.

It's the Sun newspaper. Enough said!

:(

I have no problems with children - children are children and lovely, no matter what size, shape, colour, gender, etc. But this makes me think that perhaps they're trying to justify or cover up the results of the Chernobyl tragedy. I'd like to see more than a Sunday paper report to make this in any way convincing. I've met a child who was from Chernobyl; she was with a group of kids who were given a holiday tour in Australia as a part of a Christian charity exchange. I don't know enough about the ramifications of the accident on the population, but I doubt the kids are going to be getting any sort of benefit from it, beyond a few charitible efforts like the one I mentioned, to make their lives any better after growing up in a nuclear accident zone.

The only possible way for this to be true is if the kids are receiving extra attention due to Chernobyl. Assuming there are mutations, most will be harmful.
