The family of troubled Prince Ernst August of Hanover may face illegal gun possession charges after police discovered that 37 items in the family collection of muskets, pistols and rifles were still in working order.

Prosecutor Thomas Klinge said Friday police scientists were still checking the weapons, which are listed in an online Sotheby's catalogue for an 11-day antique auction starting next week at the prince's fairytale Marienburg castle south of Hanover in Germany.
...
The prosecutor said it was illegal to own unregistered guns, even antique ones.

Doubt anything will eventuate. They probably forgot all about these - they've been hanging on the wall or something for centuries, like the family portraits and deer-heads. Any competent gunsmith could fix that fairly quickly, no problem.

Note the provocative wording "may", "could". No actual charges either.

Beat up.

"When flintlock muskets are outlawed, only outlaws will have flintlock muskets."

The gun that Jack Ruby used to kill Oswald was slated for destruction, for some BS about improper possession.

Don't know whether it got rescued or not...

As long as it has no bullets in it, and it's bolted to its display stand, it would make a great curiosity for Ripleys Believe It Or Not Museum in Las Vegas!

IIRC, I think this was in Washington, DC, when they passed a law. It, and other historical weapons had to flee the city.

...because you know that outlawing guns caused the criminals to both give up theirs and to stop getting them illegally anyway.

Scientific theory: Because of this, I predict

sorry, had a little giggle there

Because of this, I predict gun violence is way down in Washington, DC, when compared to its past and to other cities over the same time period.

Something has already "eventuated." Having the police come and examine your possessions is a harrowing experience. Having the threat of criminal prosecution is scary. If a gun control law does not exempt antiques, the legislators are idiots. If the police do not exercise discretion in this type of case, the police chief is not very competent.
