(I mistakenly started this thread in the Music forum...)

If two people in the same household have iPods, and have to use iTunes on the same computer, is there a way to set it up so that their libraries of music are totally separate?

For example, if my daughter gets an iPod, our tastes in music have very little overlap. I don't want to have to wade through all of her stuff to find mine, and vice versa.

How do we work this?

Simply set up a new user account for her. This keeps your stuff 100% separate.

You mean a new XP User account, or something within iTunes? Because she has a separate XP User account. If that's all it takes, great!

I have a 15G Ipod and my daughter has a shuffle, and we share Itunes, just create a seperate library for your daughter by putting her stuff in one folder and import it as her library, and set your Ipod's to only sync to what is in your own librarys.

Each Ipod will show up as a differrent library when they are plugged in, with the name you gave it when you formatted it.

I still don't see the reason for an Ipod. I can still use a pack of 50 CDs, keep a book of them, and an mp3 CD player, and kick the ipod's capacitiy's ass. and I only paid $30. Someone explain why the Ipod should be part of my life, other than the hopes and dreams that someone will look at me walking down the street and say "My god. Your white headphones, though horribly uncomfortable, are amazingly sexy to me. Let us make babies"
Maybe I'll never know.

Then again, maybe I'll never be an amazingly hip silhouette dancing to Swedish rock bands either. C'est la Vie.

Yes, I meant a new account on the computer. I'm sure you can do this with XP, I have a mac and if you set up a new user account it's like a different, own computer. All your other stuff is protected as well, your desktop won't be fiddled with, your files are save and there will be no oops -- I think I deleted this file of yours :)

@treble_head: Of course sex is the reason!

There are lots of reasons for owning an IPod.
1. ITunes tells me what music I played last week on the IPod.
2. The Ipod tells me what music is playing.
3. No need to change CDs.
4. My IPod is smaller than your 50 CDs. Not to mention your player.
5. Flexibility. Can you play all your song names that start with B? I can.
6. How much time did you spend putting all your music onto MP3s? You will have a backup in case you lose your MP3s?
7. ~~~~~~~
8. IPods can be up to 60GB big.

10. ~~~~~~~

Are your CDs all MP3s?

Best reason, treble_head: 40GB external hard drive!

Can't beat that!

The main reason I got an iPod was so I wouldn't HAVE TO carry around a bunch of CDs.

And I don't use the white earbuds.

At work, I have the iPod hooked up to a set of wireless headphones.

In the car, I have a cassette adaptor that lets me play the iPod through my ancient cassette car stereo.

By the way, I have heard it said that the white earbuds are like a neon sign over your head, saying "I HAVE AN IPOD - PLEASE COME STEAL IT."

Yup, it worked just fine. Each XP profile has its own "My Documents" folder, which in turn contains a "My Music" folder, which iTunes uses by default.

Thanks!
