Is this really the kind of thing we should be contributing to via our (unfair and exorbitant) council tax payments?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/7538134.stm

Salt shakers with fewer holes have been sent to fish and chip shops in an attempt to curb salt consumption.

West Norfolk Council spent about £450 sending 200 shakers, which have only four holes, to 39 shops in the area.

It said it hoped the scheme would help residents limit their salt intake to the guideline maximum of 6g a day.

A spokesman for the National Federation of Fish Friers called the scheme a "gimmick" and said customers would just shake the containers more.

How long until the movers and shakers at West Norfolk Council start another genius initiative to combat a mysterious increased incidence of tennis elbow among chip eaters?

If this is the size of the problems in West Norfolk, why have a council?

When I were a lad, it was the pepper shaker that had multiple holes, while the salt shaker had but a single opening through which the salty goodness flowed. Maybe the salt syndicate put pressure on the shaker makers to add the extra holes in order to achieve parity with the pepper pact.

Nowadays I rarely add salt to anything except sometimes when boiling water.

Because you need them to put up useless signs like the ones you see on Top Gear?

Does size not count any more?

I'm asking for a research scholarship to make bigger salt crystals.

Plenty salt crystals are big naturally. It may be better to just not crush them. Looks nice too:
