The Missing Day, in which we learn that Thanksgiving is not an American, but rather a Christian holiday.

An interesting side note. Chick implies, through the use of bold italic font, that Squanto speaking perfect English was somehow extra-ordinary, perhaps even a devine miracle. The truth is a little less flattering to us white folk.

Haha, instant classic! I wonder if Mr.Chick knows how much I enjoy his little comics for all the wrong reasons.

But is it true that kids can't say 'thanksgiving' at school in the US? I doubt it.

No. Christians in the US love to play the persecution card every time they can even though they're the majority and they're the oppressors.

No. That's pure Chick fantasy. I've never even heard of that particular form of Christian persecution.

Not only can they say "Thanksgiving", they are taught about the Pilgrims and so forth. Though of course not the way Uncle Chick teaches it.

But the have to be persecuted, it says so in the Bible. You can't have an apocalypse without christians being persecuted, therefore they are being persecuted... even if they aren't. Facts? Who cares about the stinking facts?

There are plenty of places in the world where Christians are persecuted. The USA isn't one of them.

Man, druggies, homos and yet all that dysfunctional extended family still managed to have a dinner together? Plus uncle Mort obviously didn't read his Bible properly cuz he's rich...

Well, they have the bond of being not-Christian to hold them together.

BTW, it is most definitely allowable to say Thanksgiving in public schools, since whatever Jack Chick may think, Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday.

Last I checked, it's also legal to say Easter, Ramadan, and Hanukkah in public schools. Even if Thanksgiving *were* a religious holiday, it would be fine to say. Even if the name of Thanksgiving was a complete prayer, including "Praise Jesus, Amen!", it would be fine to say. The only thing that would be forbidden would be a school official leading said prayer.

Right. Students and teachers can say Christmas, Easter, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or even St. Swithun's Day. Those holidays are even "celebrated" in class, while always keeping an eye on diversity (except for St. Swithun's Day, which is in July).

However, students do not get Christmas and Easter break as they did when I was a kid. It is Winter recess and Spring recess.

Chick's also rather light on his history - the tract seems to be saying that the Mayflower sailed from Holland!

Wow, that one was comedy in it's purest form!

That Jack Chick is a wild man, baby!

"Then God let them find corn that had been buried by the Indians."

...Because God loved the pilgrims so much more than the Indians?

Sounds to me like the pilgrims should have been thanking the Indians, not God.

Yes, but that would be in the real world. In the Jack Chick world the Pilgrims thank God and the Indians probably thank God too, for being shown the error of their heathen ways.

American history would have been much more interesting if some of the Indians had been worshippers of Baal or Attys* or Ishtar.

I can't see the stuffy Puritans convincing anyone to drop out of a sex religion. "But you could go to Heaven when you die!" "Honey, it's a sex religion. It's pretty much Heaven here and now."

*Although the worshippers of Attys were only a sex religion up until a particular point. Or rather, lack of a point. Ouchie.

Somehow I think the Indians intended to return when they needed the corn...

Since Chick deems himself so popular with Christians, maybe I shall take a tack that introduces Christians to far better ideas. Maybe like this Buddhist one from thousands of years ago.
May I be a guard for those who are protectorless,
A guide for those who journey on the road;
For those who wish to go across the water,
May I be a boat, a raft, a bridge.

May I be an isle for those who yearn for landfall,
And a lamp for those who long for light;
For those who need a resting place, a bed,
For all who need a servant, may I be a slave.

May I be the wishing jewel, the vase of plenty,
A word of power, and the supreme remedy.
May I be the trees of miracles,
And for every being, the abundant cow.

Like the great earth and the other elements,
Enduring as the sky itself endures,
For the boundless multitude of living beings,
May I be the ground and vessel of their life.

Thus, for every single thing that lives,
In number like the boundless reaches of the sky,
May I be their sustenance and nourishment
Until they pass beyond the bounds of suffering

Chick is like religious pornography, and the people who buy and distribute it as truth have similar motivations.

"Then God let them find corn that was buried by the Indians"

O.......K. So, it's Christian to steal food from non-Christians? Food that was buried by the Indians specifically to help the Indians survive?

It's people like Chick who makes us Europeans laugh.
