I'm sure this has been answered before but I can't find it using the search function. Can anyone tell me how Moon landing hoax believers explain away the hammer and feather demonstration from the Apollo 15 mission.

When confronted with the reality of the astronauts being in a vacuum, they sometimes claim that NASA built a giant vacuum chamber in which they built the Moon movie set.

I bet someone even has plans of this giant vacuum chamber  You know that tricky little thing called proof?

I have seen multiple claims of a lead feather and a foam hammer.

Actually, the hammer and feather demonstration in itself would be relatively easy to fake. A short sequence with a fairly tightly framed shot of an astronaut simply standing and dropping the objects doesn't bring in as many of the problems of lighting over extended distances, or comical motions when speeding up footage, or having a 1/6G vacuum environment in scenes spanning on the order of kilometers.

It also is a lot easier to fake than transmissions from lunar orbit and the surface, years of ALSEP data, hundreds of kilograms of differentiated lunar samples, thousands of tons of flight and engineering hardware, the personal testimony of thousands upon thousands of engineers, scientists, and technicians, ...

ETA: I haven't looked at the actual video of the experiment lately. The way it was actually filmed may not have been very easy to fake. But with the right resources, you could set up a relatively convincing one of just that short demonstration.

If In recal correctly Mythbusters reproduced that experiment in a vacuum chamber at NASA... uh oh... I see what they did there...
