From Randi's commentary, he quotes Mike Wood:

Some time ago, before I happened upon the JREF, I was in my senior year of high school. It was a private, Anglican school, so the students had to attend bi-weekly chapel services. Mostly these were pretty quick sessions, a couple of hymns and a reading or two, and we'd be on our way. One day, though, the headmaster went up to the front and gave a little presentation.

The gist of it was that, as the Mayan astrologers predicted, either the world will end in 2012, or a large change in the world will occur between now and then (which leaves one wondering how there could possibly not be a significant change over 12 years). Specifically, the Sun's harmonic resonance will be affected by vibrations from the "astral realms," causing the Earth to be bombarded with rays of love and enlightenment! Ushering in this new era for humanity will be three groups of special children:

1) The SuperPsychic™ children of China, who have the amazing ability to bend spoons with their minds;

2) The Indigo Children, which are apparently kids who have all the symptoms of ADD [Attention Deficit Disorder], but are really alien-human hybrids; and

3) The Amazing AIDS-curing kids of California.

I looked into the third one on the Internet, and every single medically-oriented site that I went to agreed that lab contamination created a false positive — the kids never had AIDS to begin with, which would explain why the tests were negative the second time around....
Those three items looked suspiciously familiar to me, especially listed in that order. So I double checked and it looks like that list could have come directly from Diane Cooper's interview with Drunvalo Melchizedek (March of 1999). That interview has been plastered all over the net. Here's a current example:

http://www.awakening-healing.com/.../Children_of_the_New_Dream.htm

Drunvalo also mentions these children in his 1999 book, The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life: Volume 1.

If these are the children Mike Wood is speaking about, then I have a minor quibble with his comment about the third item, the children born with AIDS. I too looked into that matter when it first came out and the following is what I posted on Drunvalo's Spirit of Ma'at forum, similar to a previous post I made to his Flower of Life forum (both forums have since shut down).

In the interest of being thorough, I'm going to cover in great detail just one example here, an example that I have reported on several times in the past, including on Drunvalo's now defunct Flower of Life Message Board. There are other examples.

A significant example of blatant falsehoods published by Drunvalo is a story in his first book about a boy who Drunvalo claims has non-human DNA and thus rid himself of AIDS. Drunvalo also repeated this same story in an interview by Diane Cooper in 1999. If you don't have the book, the interview can be seen at several links, including these two:

Although this particular story is based on an actual case at the UCLA Medical Center, there are many factual errors in Drunvalo's version of it, some minor and some egregious.

The case at UCLA was first reported by Dr. Bryson in 1995 in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine:

"Clearance of HIV Infection in a Perinatally Infected Infant"
by Yvonne J. Bryson, et al, NEJM, March 30, 1995, Vol. 332, No. 13

First, let's look at what Drunvalo says about this story. To save you the time of looking up the story I am referring to, here is the relevant excerpt from Drunvalo's interview:

<ul>------- begin excerpt --------
Drunvalo: About 10 or 11 years ago in the US, there was a baby born with AIDS. They tested him at birth and at 6 months and he tested positive for AIDS. They tested him a year later and he still tested positive. Then they didn't test him again until he was 6, and what was amazing is that this test showed that he was completely AIDS free! In fact, there was no trace that he ever had AIDS or HIV whatsoever!

He was taken to UCLA to see what was going on and those tests showed that he didn't have normal human DNA. In the human DNA we have 4 nucleic acids that combine in sets of 3 producing 64 different patterns that are called codons. Human DNA all over the world always has 20 of these codons turned on and the rest of them are turned off, except for 3 which are the stop and start codes, much like a computer. Science always assumed that the ones that were turned off were old programs from our past. I've always seen them like application programs in a computer. Anyway...this boy had 24 codons turned on - 4 more than any other human being. Then they tested this kid tosee how strong his immune system was.

They took a very lethal dose of AIDS in a petri dish and mixed it with some of his cells and his cells remained completely unaffected. They kept raising the lethalness of the composition and finally went up to 3,000 times more than what was necessary to infect a human being and his cells stayed completely disease free. Then they started testing his blood with other things like cancer and discovered that this kid was immune to everything! Then they found another kid with these codons turned on - then another one - then another one - then 10,000, then 100,000, then a million of them - and at this point, UCLA, by watching world-wide DNA testing, estimates that 1% of the world has this new DNA. That breaks down to approximately 60 million people who are not human by the old criteria.

Diane: Is this new codon activation found only in newborn children?

Drunvalo: Well, it's mostly children, but now they are finding adults with it too - just like the hundredth monkey theory. Now all kinds of people are being affected by it and it's spreading fast. Remember, it started just 5 years ago with almost no one and now it's spreading - just like a disease. It's like an outbreak and this is only the beginning.

The other part of this concerns the new book entitled "Cracking the Bible Code" - which has to do with running the Hebrew Books of the Bible through a specialized computer program. If you go to page 164 of this book, it shows where these researchers put the word 'AIDS' into the program to see what would happen. When they did, the program translation provided words like "HIV", "in the blood", "the immune system", "death" - all the things you would think you'd see around the word AIDS, but down in the corner was this sentence that they didn't understand and it said - "the end of disease", and that is what I believe is happening here.

Science has stated that there are so many people showing up with this new alien DNA that they now believe that a new human race is being born on the earth today and apparently they can't get sick. Now what is really incredible - they believe that it is a very specific emotional, mental body response - a waveform coming off the body that is causing the DNA to mutate in a certain way.

I've sat with Gregg Braden who was one of the first persons to write about this ...

Anyone who researches Drunvalo's story looking for supporting evidence will find the following:

  1. It is not true that any of the codons in human DNA are turned off or inert or not working. Everyone has all 64 codons on. The facts do not support Drunvalo's claim that "Science always assumed that the ones that were turned off were old programs from our past." See a technical explanation of codons at the end of this message (if interested).
  2. It is not true that UCLA Medical Center did not see the child until age six, but rather that he was born there, as part of an ongoing HIV study. Dr. Bryson was the attending pediatrician and principle investigator in this case.
  3. It is not true that the child tested HIV positive at one year of age. The only two times he tested HIV positive was at 19 days and 51 days of age. When he was again tested at one year, he was HIV negative, and remained that way for at least the next four years. (I don't have any followup information on the boy's present condition.)
  4. It is not true that Dr. Bryson, or anyone else at the UCLA Medical Center, did any testing of the child's DNA, other than to do a type match to confirm that the blood samples that tested HIV positive did indeed come from the boy. It was a standard precautionary measure to rule out laboratory error and sample contamination. They also did type matching of the HIV's DNA for the same reason.
  5. It is not true that the UCLA researchers found that the boy's DNA was non-human, nor did they find four additional codons "activated" in the child's DNA. This is probably the most preposterous of Drunvalo's factual errors.
  6. It is not true that the child was tested for other immunities, such as immunity against cancer. They certainly did not discover that he was immune to "everything" as Drunvalo claims.
  7. It is not true that the child had AIDS. One, the child had a very weak strain of HIV. Two, contrary to most newborns who get the virus from their mothers, this boy's viral load was extremely small. Three, his blood contained significant levels of HIV anti-bodies from his mother. These three things are what Bryson and other researchers conclude led to the disappearance of the virus in this case.
  8. It is not true that UCLA researchers know of 100,000 (or whatever big number) of humans who have non-human DNA, as reported by Drunvalo. However, there are now several dozen documented cases similar to this one, where an infant born of an HIV positive mother also had the virus, but later was cleared of it. But there is no evidence of any non-human DNA. It should be noted that three out of four children born to HIV positive mothers never get infected in the first place.
  9. The so-called "Bible Code" has been thoroughly debunked and discredited elsewhere, so I don't feel the need to comment on that here.
To summarize, although Drunvalo's report begins with an actual medical case, most of Drunvalo's story is not supported by the facts, as verifiable by anyone who is willing to do some research. I don't know where Drunvalo got his story, whether he is just repeating what someone told him (perhaps Gregg Braden), or whether he misunderstood what someone told him, or whether he embellished it himself, but this is not an isolated example of a report from Drunvalo that contains gross factual errors.

As promised above, here is an explanation of DNA codons and amino acids, and why it is not possible to find an additional four codons "activated" in human DNA. Anyone not interested in the technical details can skip to the last paragraph of this message.

The following excerpt is from Dr. John B. Burch of the University of Michigan:

http://www.ummz.lsa.umich.edu/curators/jbb/bio100/24%20Gene_expression.html

<ul>------ begin excerpt ---------
In translation from RNA to polypeptide, the four nucleotides [A (adenine), U (thymidine), C (cytosine), and G (guanine)] must specify the 20 amino acids that make up Proteins. Therefore, bases three at a time ["triplets"] are needed to specify all of the amino acids. [Two bases at a time is not enough; [4 x 4] = only 16]. [4 x 4 x 4] = 64, which is more than enough needed to specify the 20 amino acids. So, some amino acids can be coded for by more than one base triplet. The flow of information from gene to protein is based on a triplet code. The 3-base words are called codons. [A codon is a group of 3 nucleotides that specifies a single amino acid, i.e., a 3-nucleotide sequence in mRNA that specifies a particular amino acid or polypeptide termination signal and functions as the basic unit of the genetic code.]

The first codon was deciphered in 1961. Since then, the amino acids specified by all the codons have been determined. Of the 64 triplets in the genetic code, 61 code for amino acids. [The table of 64 codons has been called the molecular biologist's "Rosetta stone of life."]

AUG has a dual function:
-codes for Methionine
-Provides the signal to start a polypeptide chain.

Three codons do not designate amino acids; they are the stop codons - to designate the end of the production of a polypeptide.

There is a redundancy in the genetic code [e.g., UUU and UUC both code for Phenylalanine]. However, there is no ambiguity, i.e., none of the codons produce more than one amino acid.

As one can plainly see, none of the 64 codons in human DNA are "turned off" or "not working", as Drunvalo claims. All 64 codons are active in everyone's DNA (in fact in all animals) and each codon has a function that is already known. In light of this, I don't see how Drunvalo can justify claiming that "Science always assumed that the ones that were turned off were old programs from our past." Quite obviously, Science assumed no such thing.</div>
