Michael Jackson fans commit suicide!!!!

Suicide tends to come from cumulative stress. IMO they were almost certainly already suffering clinical depression and what happened to Jackson was just a final stressor. It might have ended a day later after a fight they got into with a parent or after watching a very sad movie.

It may have looked like Michael was the reason they killed themselves but I somehow doubt it. They didn't even know him.

It was "the day the music died..", not the day the world ended, way back when.
Unreasoning fandom is one of life's bizarre offshoots.
Makes good filler for the evening news, when nothing worth reporting is going on.

Jesse Jackson, a friend of the singer, has recorded a YouTube film on the site urging fans not to "self destruct".

Q: Who's the fastest man on Earth?
A: The man who can get between Jesse Jackson and a camera.

Q: Why was Jesse Jackson crying at Barack Obama's victory speech?
A: He was out of a job.

I knew two people that committed suicide over the death of Elvis Presley. One within a week and the other several years later, after "Saint Elvis" appeared to her in a dream.

I understand obsessions, but not fanatical obsessions like these.

Unfortunately some people are obsessed enough with celebrities that they become their entire lives, and when a celebrity's life ends suddenly it can be enough to push them over the edge.

No, I don't understand it either. :(

All those real-life layabouts and losers that celebrate when "their team" wins some championship and riot and loot, they're not much different from the brain-damaged that so identify with some media clown as to take it personally when the clown dies.

I find this hard to believe. It would be difficult to confirm that 12 people world wide have committed suicide in the last day or so. How would any one person know this?

Or...

This is either someone who I would encourage not to be a parent, or a brilliant troll.

ETA:

HAHAHAHAHA I don't know who's trolling more, the OP or the comments. HYSTERICAL!

EDIT: I believe in reincarnation. So just imagine if Michael Jackson reincarnated as your baby and you aborted him. I bet you would feel pretty bad then, wouldn’t you.

OMG HAHAHAHA:

BILLY MAYS HERE TO TELL YOU THAT NO DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BRING THIS CHILD INTO THE WORLD IN FACT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER LEAVING THIS WORLD TOO. ONLY YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT ONLY MICHAEL JACKSON HAD THE STRENGTH AND THE POWER TO REMOVE ALL THE BAD IN THE WORLD.

Srsly the comments are making me pee a little with every laugh. Awesome.

Drudgewire brought that to my attention on another thread. I like this comment posted by Barbwire:
Oh don't be so quick to abort. I'm sure you can find another pop star to molest your child.

I'm really annoyed by these kinds of articles. When I was a kid there was a scare about roleplaying games. Newspapers reported that a teenager commited suicide because of his ingame character "dying". I remember feeling so angry at those reporters. It was as if nothing else about this kids life mattered in any way.

People kill themselves. To reduce the pain and sorrow that drove them to this down to "it was because Michael Jackson died" is very distasteful way to make an argument, atleast in my opinion.
