Media Bias Against Guns

From the article:

Toledo, Ohio - A store employee wounded one of two men who tried to rob a West Toledo carryout. The employee had received his concealed handgun permit just three days earlier. The employee's father said, "My son did what he had to do . . . . Money can be replaced; lives can't."
Is that why he shot the robber?

I am the only one to find this quote a bit strange? Please explain.

Yes,if every clerk at every carryout carried a gun..no one would ever try to job the place!!

There's something I've always been curious about: if one sincerely believes that an armed society is a polite one (and so on), wouldn't it make sense to advocate giving all prison inmates a handgun and thus cutting down on prison violence/uprisings/etc? I mean, assuming that the guards all had guns as well.

Or they'd bring bigger guns....

Or just shoot first without the customary "stand and deliver!"

Well, they don't really say that anymore.....

Seriously, there was much debate here in Missouri over adoption of the concealed carry law, (and still is...) and a great deal of information was floated from both camps.

From what I've been able to discern from my capacity as a law enforcement officer, states that adopt concealed carry have an initial rush of applications, and lots of folks get to feel more secure packing that heat.
After a while, they find that packing heat is annoying and uncomfortable, and start leaving the piece in the car, or eventually at home. There will always be a small contingent who will carry the weapon religiously.
The overall effect on the state's crime rate is nill. The thought that "criminals won't attack if they're in doubt about the victim being armed!" Fails because frequently criminals are impulsive individuals. Only a very small percent meticulously plan crimes; mostly it's opportunity and habit.
I suppose it's a minor spur to the economy, as firearms dealers, operators of ranges and training services, and other peripheral firearms products dealers may have a spurt of increased sales.
