It doesn't say if the horse was male or female.

I was reminded of an old joke which went something like this:

A conversation between two cavalry officers:

"Have you heard? Carruthers was seen having sex with his horse last night!"

"Good God! Not his stallion!"

"No, his mare. There's nothing queer about Carruthers."

An obvious miscarriage of justice. It is difficult to imagine how sex with a 900 lb horse is not consensual. Yes, constraints are possible, but putting an unwilling horse into such a position would be a very difficult task for one man. And I did notice that no mention was made of any struggle on the horse's part.

At most, Woods should have been charged with trespassing.

Phew...for a second or so, I thought the title of this thread was "Man sentenced to sex act on horse at Devon stable." It made me wonder what sort of crime would get that for a sentence?

Not all horses are 900 lbs. Some are tiny packages indeed.

Actually, I don't think it would be that difficult. Horses can be restrained in a narrow stall with bars across the front and back when being examined by a vet, such as in the case of pregnancy tests. Also, note the article says that " the owner noticed injuries to the horse in February 2010", so that may indicate struggle or that he was sticking it in the horse's pupr.

Err, no. Horses can't give consent. Would it be okay to have sex with a severely mentally handicapped person if they were strong enough to stop you if they didn't "consent"?

Yeah, he might get away with that once. But the next time he tried to get the horse into that narrow stall with bars across the front and back, he would be met with pretty much immovable opposition.

Unless the horse liked it the first time...;)
 
I am personally disgusted when I hear about people doing this. But I don't think it is really the state's business. Especially when you consider it is usually the horse that sticks it to the person.

Uh, you can do lots of things to horses you can't do to people. Just try using severely mentally handicapped people to pull you around in a cart, for example.

The perpetrator probably never saw its face, being at the wrong end. Unless it was giving him oral sex, of course. :)

I've just remembered something a friend of mine told me at college many years ago - someone was mentioned in their local paper as having been caught having sex with a chicken. Interestingly, he was only prosecuted for stealing the chicken.

Yes, yes you can. What does that have to do with whether a horse can give consent? The comparison was made because neither are capable of giving consent, regardless of whether they are physically strong enough to stop someone who is trying to have sex with them.

Horses are not people. We do lots of things to horses without their consent, including eating them.
