But the festival has come under fire from users of Instagram, the photo-sharing social network, who claimed the policy was discriminatory against transgender people.

This is because the ban on men only applies to what Ms Knyckare described as "cisgender men", a term for a person whose gender identity corresponds to their sex assigned at birth.

All men are not rapists, but almost all rapes are carried out by men," she said. "We want to create a free space, a cool festival where women can be without feeling worried."

There was a case a few years ago where a trans woman, complete sex-reassignment surgery and legally certified as "female", was tossed out of a woman's "retreat".

Caused quite a stir at the time.
