I am not sure if this is the right subforum for a thread about this, but I think that my question is more about a social issue than about math or education as such.
I live in a country where evolution is considered to be an undisputed fact. It is not impossible to find Danes who believe in creationism, but they are very, very rare, maybe even rarer than flat earthers in the USA.
My question is this: What will happen to the teaching of math in schools after Trump recently introduced a new kind of math when he was talking about lowering the prices of medicine?
Will teachers of math and arithmetic still be allowed to teach the old-fashioned kind, which I think the USA used to have in common with European countries?
Or will they have to switch to Trump's new math, MAGA math? (Or is it MAHA math, since it's about the price of medicine?)
I assume that blue states will stick with the old version of math in defiance of Trump, but what happens in red states?
Will teachers (particularly the elderly, who always find these new-fangled ideas more difficult to cope with) be forced to learn and teach Trumpian math?
Or can they continue to teach the kind of math they themselves learned in school? Or will everybody be forced to teach the controversy?
I haven't heard Linda McMahon speak out about this. I don't know if anybody even asked her about it. (If they didn't, they should!)
The new school year is about to begin, so I think teachers have a right to know what kind of math they are supposed to teach from now on.
AP claims that Trump's kind of math isn't even possible, but we all know that AP is as partisan as all the other lamestream media, so what will it be?
FACT FOCUS: Trump says he’s cut drug prices by up to 1,500%. That’s not possible (AP, Aug 4, 2025)
