I came across this article at a woo forum:

http://inexplicata.blogspot.com/2009/01/source-ovnivenezuela-date-01.html

[...]

"We reached the house late. One group stayed inside tidying things up while we took out some chairs and began lighting a fire. At that time, none of us had had anything to eat or drink, because we had just reached the site."

According to the witness, the being, which stood at approximately two or 3 meters tall, was brilliant white and transparent like a hologram. It ran swiftly over the water's surface, coasting the shore some 60 meters away.

[...]

Larry Gonzalez adds that two of the people who witnessed this episode are atheists and did not believe in the supernatural. This experience, however, has changed their point of view. Even he himself was skeptical about supernatural accounts presented on television. "When I would see people on TV discussing things of this nature, I would find it ridiculous, and say it was all lies. Now I think it's true. There are things out there that we still do not understand."

It sounds like a hoax to me. They seemed careful to say that they hadn't had anything to drink before seeing it, and adding the bit about two atheists suddenly becoming believers sounds just far-fetched as the "being".

Tell you what though - this is the best thread title in a long time.

:big: Hehehe. That's another thing I think makes it a hoax. "Walking on water"... it's very Jesus-ish, and over-the-top. It ties in Steven Jones etc's "Jesus in South America" woo.

Why do you people think cats do not deserve their own Christ?

Fundie cats... Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww!

"I can haz saviour?"

Sorry.

What I notice is the standard clause:

'Two people were atheists and skeptics, but are now reconsidering'

This is almost unavoidable, and tells me that the basic purpose of such tales is to try to convert skeptics.

What I'm thinkin is that they saw something. A beam of light played along the water could be interpreted as a figure running on the surface. Whatever. The main thing is that the description is far from a raw observation, it is already heavily interpreted. But of course, it wouldn't sound nearly as interesting if they said: "We saw a length of glimmering light, which moved rapidly over the water, some way from the shore"

Hans

They all had mobile phones (with cameras, apparently) but none of them even tried to get a picture, either of the "cat" or the shoals of fish. Well, that convinces me.

That`s why Cat Christ (Jesus Cat? ) was walking OVER the water.

OT note- Jaguars do seem to like water and quite often swim. Hey, the satan cat may be a jaguar. I see a new religion being built. Too bad cats have no money to give to the new church...

More standard clauses: "Even he himself was skeptical..." and "... I would find it ridiculous, and say it was all lies..."

In one swipe showing himself to have been skeptical and giving the negative connotation to skeptics as cynics.

Maybe it was the ghost of Sammy Davis, Jr. Or would that be a "hep cat walking on water"?

Hint. The story comes from Venezuela. A strong catholic country. No more need be said.

Mr Bean arrives on Earth in a beam of light before each show. So why not this pussy?

Sorry but I fail to see a connection between weird sighting reports and Catholicism.

USA is not a "strong Catholic" country and has several "sightings" of ghosts, bigfoot, lake monsters, several types of aliens, UFOs, mothmen, Christ in a stain, etc.

Don't most cats hate water? What was this one doing over the lake?

Trampling it into submission.

I won't be convinced until I see the shoals of loaves to go with them.

So very true. But only in catholicism do you get visions of the holy family, whether it's a pussy cat or Jebuse's face on a loaf of bread or on a freshly layed concrete slab.
