with 10% of the profits (yeah, we will make a profit) going to the jref.

Anyone in?!

Anyone have any experience with stock clubs???

this is the perfect time to buy; election bump; santa clause rally.

You in?!

...crickets...

Seriously, I'm carefully buying some stocks that are significantly undervalued at present but I prefer to handle my own money.

I don't believe that the JREF as a non-profit can legally set up a Stock Club.

Some big ones are Apple and Google that took an unnecessary beating in the recent collapse. Retail electronics will definitely take a hit with the slow economy but Apple went down more than it deserves to. It is still not much of a deal though.

I'm a tad wary at some of the Green tech startups at present due to the drop in oil markets but there are some good deals out there.

If you have the balls, go for some of the more stable financial companies like Wells Fargo for long term.

Today's stock looks rough.

I'm not an expert on this but try to at least on top of it so take my opinion with some dose of self research. Good luck.

I'll pass.

No.

For the record: I'm looking at some banks, among other things. But I plan on holding them for the next 20-30 years. So, while the JREF will (hopefully) earn money, they'll have to wait a long time for it.

Well I have lost money in equities this year, since stuff I bought is mostly considerably lower than where I did, and I don't have any short positions since July (not that they are allowed anyway now)

Made a huge gain on currencies though, and bonds, but I have shrunk the bets down a lot now so not much exciting to tell.

Why would I, or anyone trust their and their loved ones financial future to a bunch of strangers? If I was unable to find my own stocks, I'd leave it to a professional or buy indexes.

JREF cannot, but I don't think there's anything stoping people who associate with it (especially if only forumites and not dues paying members) from setting up a stock club and donating profits to the foundation.

Indeed, and i wasn't suggesting we throw in our life's savings plus the kids college fund.

Perhaps it was a silly idea though.

Why not start a virtual stock exchange game for Randi forum members like the one on this web site? We played this in my high school economics class which was a blast. Let everyone start with say 1 million dollars and last a month or two. Virtualstockexchange seems to be one of the more popular web pages to do it. I would link it but I cant post a link till 15 posts.
