In the Hustler feature, Korey Rowe is quoted as saying that the Final Cut's budget is $20 million. What could this come from?

Do you think they've actually gone and recreated the whole thing?

I can't understand how it could cost $20 million.. its mainly just small animation and news clips?
 
yeah, i honestly cant imagine spending 20 million on a documentary like that, even if they are flying all over the country interviewing people that seems a bit steep

I'd imagine they will need to pay people for material, I'd imagine they will be using actual film for interviews (instead of DV), seems like they will be probably getting some douchebag like Charlie Sheen to do the voiceover which will cost money, etc.

A very expensive piece of **** if you ask me.
 
Oh yeah I forgot plus the filmmakers who aren't trying to profit off of 9/11 will be cutting themselves a nice big piece of the cake I'd imagine.
 
Dylan has debunked Korey on this over at the Loose Change blog. The $20 million is only a possible budget for advertising and film (film is expensive!).

Didn't Dylan say that the actual production budget was about $1 million? Where did THAT money come from I wonder?

Conspiracy theorist are all the same. Here's what the director of the movie "H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds" thought: (conspiracy!!)

Hines claimed that Paramount had harassed him over legal issues and held up the release of his film, but these accusations were met with suspicion, as not only had Hines' previous productions (such as Bug Wars and Starship Orpheus) never received a theatrical release, but David Michael Latt, who was also producing an adaption of H.G. Wells' novel for Asylum Pictures, never claimed any such harassment with his film.

And what he said about the budget for his film:

Anticipation for the film began to stir in July of 2001, specifically from many anxious Wells fans. Pendragon Pictures claimed to have a budget of $42 million from investors who had become interested in Hines after seeing his desktop film, Bug Wars.

Controversy also met Hines when he claimed that the budget was in the eight-figures (millions) but that he could not disclose what that amount was. However, in a book published in early 2005 entitled War of the Worlds: From Wells to Spielberg which included a respectable amount of information on the Pendragon film, Hines told the author that the budget amount was approximately $25 million. This has since been found to be a lie and production crew who worked on the film said the actual budget was around $50,000. Since then, the original $42 million that he claimed to have in 2001 for the updated modern version before the World Trade Center has also been ruled out, and any budget money before-hand is said to have been only $100,000, which went directly to Chrome, the premiere production of Pendragon Pictures.

19 million in advertising? The usual bleat of the troofers is that the video (it is not a film) is so well known that it would be an instant hit. Advertising generally equals 50% - 100% of the production budget, not 19x (and note that no documentary has ever spent anywhere near that for advertising).

General theater release involves 600 plus theaters. For someone to pony up 20 million for production and advertising, it would have to have a pre-arranged distribution deal for general release.

If they had such an arrangement then the film's tentative release date should be public by now (especially since they claimed this would be a spring release). Major finaciers are frequently given an executive producer tag and publicize this fact. The distribution company would be responsible for running trailers in theaters, principally with its other productions.

The spring release is also questionable. The major summer movies start hitting in May, and only a fool would drop a second rate production into this time period (the advertising budgets for Spiderman 3, Harry Potter, Fantastic Four would wipe out that 19 million) . This leaves the dead zone of March and April, arguably the worst time of the year for movies, when the real crap gets rolled out.

But then, these are the same guys who claimed they would be at Sundance, apparently before they even checked the requirements for entry.
 
I suspect they are going to go for a Sundance/Cannes Release and then push it from there, but I could be wrong. They didnt get into Sundance this year.

LC is ineligible for Cannes because they don't except films that have been exhibited on Internet.
