So, I've been using Firefox for many years now, and despite the issues others may have encountered, I've never, ever experienced poor performance. I run it on four different machines, and have run it on both Windows 7 and Windows XP.

Until now. The latest version of Firefox seems to run like a one-legged blind beggar. Anyone else experienced this with the latest update? It's quite common now for firefox to hang completely for a minute or two, before resuming. I've never experienced anything like it before. Seems to be happening on all my systems so I don't think it's a local issue.

On Ubuntu I'm finding Chromium is now so much quicker and snappier than Firefox.

Firefox also takes so much longer to start up.

Not updated my firefox for sometime so I'll update it and let you know. Firefox for me has always been the slowest of my browsers to load, I'd clicked on it before starting this reply and it still hasn't finished loading!

OK updated to the latest version. I was on 4 and it's now showing 9 something, which means I mustn't have updated for ages... well given the release numbering that's at least a week!

And it is loading no quicker or slower than ever - I've disabled all add-ons.

Could it be you have an add-on that causing a problem with the latest version or you have add-ons being updated before it fully starts?

We have an internet connection that at some times of the day kinda farts in and out. If there is a lapse in connectivity, then Firefox on my XP computer will reload just fine when the internet comes back on. On our Windows 7 machine, you actually have to close and restart the program for it to reload the page. When it would happen in the middle of a video before, we could exit full-screen really quickly, hover the mouse over the spot on the video's timeline and then use a keystroke to refresh the page and easily start it back up where we left off. Considering how slow it is anyway, it's like having an internet-connected VHS player that sadistically rewinds the video every time it's ejected.

I find that the most recent 2 or 3 versions all but kill interactive flash - like the games on facebook for instance. Just kills them.

I get a bit of a hesitation but the Facebook games load and run. Although Firefox -has- fallen over during the game. Hopefully the new update will fix that

Seems slowish but usable on my notebook (with "only" 512K) but runs fine on my desktop with a Meg.

Neither machine is particularly new or fast.

In my case the Firefox 6 to Firefox 7 update was a big improvement in speed, 7 to 8 was little or no change, but 8 to 9 might be slightly slower but still better than it was at 6.

I think I say this in every Firefox thread but they have been running 2 lines of Firefox. Updates to version 3.6, and the normal line which is on 9.01 or whatever.

I still use the version 3.6 line which is up to 3.6.25 now I think.

They update it about once every month since it split off into two lines back at version 3.6.1 or so. The few plug-ins I use still work fine and support the 3.6 line.

Firefox 3.6.x will be maintained with security and stability updates for a short amount of time. All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox.

It has said that (a short amount of time) since the split, which has been at least a year I think... Love my 3.6 firefox! I hope they don't stop.

No difference between v8 and v9 for me. Nonetheless, Opera runs wayyyy faster than Firefox on my computers.

Have noticed exactly the same problem.

All my mini icons alongside the bookmarks no longer display since I upgraded to FF 9.0.1.

I'm finding Firefox stalling my computer, being seriously unstable and generally not working well. I've switched over to IE9.

As prone to crash as Firefox has been since version 4 or so. Has Mozilla been inflitrated by Microsoft?

I don't think I've had Firefox crash on my in months, if not longer.
