KFC targeted after mosque attack

Six killed at KFC as protesters seek revenge for mosque attack This just strikes me as odd. Why target KFCs? Are there no other western fast food joints in Pakistan? Do they consider Colonel Sanders the devil?
Maybe they think the Colonel is really a US military man. Or that they prefer Harold's Chicken Shack.

Perhaps the are having trouble distinguishing between Kentucy Fried Chicken and... Kentucky.

I don't know, but there's a maelstrom of meat issues in that area and chicken's pretty innocuous. So is sheep and goat, but US fast food, from what I know of it, doesn't make a big thing of them. So maybe KFC is the face of America in Pakistan.

And there's always the possibility that the KFC franchise-holder has enough pull to keep all the others out.

Colonel Sanders mocks them, standing above them in his gleaming white suit, his sinister eyes glaring down in contempt from behind his imperialistic spectacles. His very being oozes offense. He will never reveal the secret of the eleven herbs and spices, and thus he taunts us. "I'm better than y'all", his smug countenance declares, "for I hold the knowledge, I say knowledge, of the mighty chicken secret. And not even the Prophet shall know!" Thus his wicked infamy is compounded of vanity, blasphemy, and pride; truly, Colonel Sanders is the ultimate hellish prince. He serves up his evil extra-crispy, in a gaudy bucket, laughing at us all.

The artful Dodger is probably correct. Never been to Pakistan, but did live in the UAE for four years and have visited Egypt twice, and while the usual fast-food places are there (for some reason Hardee's has quite an international presence), KFC was the most numerous of the American-grown restaurants I saw there. And with the big signs and easily-identified logo, it sticks out in the crowd.

Plus, the burger chains tend to go into the 'expat' and well-to-do areas who can afford beef--this IMHO, as I have no actual experience in Pakistan.

Target of opportunity.

I believe you'll find, if you read the Koran, that Mohammad said: "Popeye's chicken is f****ing awesome".

Or maybe it was Adam Sandler in Little Nickie. Oh well, you get the idea.
