In her Emmy acceptance speech, she said
"a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus."
Apparently that is hate speech.

Should be Griffin, not Griffen if a mod would be so kind.

How can it be hate speech when jesus doesn't exist?
This is another perfect example of Dawkin's idea that christianity gets special consideration in society.
All she did was speak the truth (as far as evidence indicates). ;)

If she gets another award she may learn the error of her ways. Remember Jesus next time Kathy.

Peace be with you all.

Kathy Griffin is funny as hell as far as I'm concerned, and no Christians ever spoke up when she was ripping Scientology to shreds.

What I'd really like to see is E! bleeping out all the speeches that thanked Jesus as well.

And I don't see the muslims being overly vocal about this incident either, funny that huh?

Well, Bill Donohue is an expert on hate speech... mostly from his own mouth:

Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It's not a secret, OK? And I'm not afraid to say it. That's why they hate this movie. It's about Jesus Christ, and it's about truth. It's about the messiah. Hollywood likes anal sex.
I don't know what about -- the queer-bashing is all about. I'm pretty good about picking out who queers are and I didn't see any in the movie. I'm usually pretty good at that.

Stupid, anti-semitic, AND a hypocrite! Sweet!

Jesus didnt exist? I thought he was a real person, just not the son of god. I believe god does not exist but jesus was fake?

Define "Jesus". There are a number of threads about whether or not Jesus was a real person. It invariably ends in an argument about what claims about him can be false and still qualify as "Jesus".

Hey, I thinks scholars debate it. Robert M. Price probably some has publications on it, and also read about "The Jesus seminar".

Basically, the argument boils down to this: there is a high likelihood that a "Josh son of Joe" existed in the area about that time... but there's no evidence that the Biblical character relates to any real person to a meaningful degree. It is like if you read a science fiction novel including current public figures in a future setting. The story provides a fictional character that may resemble an actual person to some extent, but it is not the real person at all.

Wow, Joe, well said! I could have said the same thing, as I just had this discussion on Sunday (an offshoot of my sister naming her son Johsua).

As for Kathy, I support her to say anything she wants, even if I don't agree with it. I find her only marginally funny, but I loved her when she did her Seinfeld shows.

I've been a Kathy Griffin fan for awhile, though the things she has done to her face... yeesh.

Anyhow, she's never been silent when she's been critized. She talks enthusiasically about how she was banned from the View and a handful of other shows. I'm looking forward to what she's going to say about this, and I'm hoping that she won't chicken out and back down.

^^she didntback down when she did something a lot worse at the untelevised emmys last time, lol. that was a hilarious story.
