Anyone here know of any Kansas/Missouri skeptic groups? All the ones I've heard of are on the coasts. We need one here. I'd like to find some people to investigate the Stoll church on Halloween. Seems Satan makes a personal appearance there every year in order to visit a witches grave.:D Perfect place for a Stoll witch project:j2:

I'm in Lenexa
We could probably get a movement started to see if more area skeptics would be interested in forming our own group!
Is the Stoll Church the one out by Lawrence?

think so,
I think I misspelled it the first time.
The correct spelling is Stull
When I did a search for "Stull church" about half of the listings were from a Lawrence Newspaper, so I think it's in the area.

P.S. a while back I found a book about haunted houses in the KS/MO area. It could be helpful, but unfortunately my copy was destroyed. I think it was called something like "Ghosts of KC MO" or "KC MO sightings"

Hello, I am in Wichita, Ks. I attended KU in Lawrence and just recently I drove through Stull,Ks on the way to KU and the church has been torn down. Seems to be a pile of stones still there but the building is gone.

For those not familiar, Stull is a small (very small even for Kansas) town between Topeka and Lawrence that has a cemetery on a hill on one side of the road and about 4 houses, a bait shop and a church on the other side of the road. At the top of the hill in the cemetery was an old stone church that had been abandoned for years. The town is definitely don't blink or you will miss it.

I remember in junior high school watching In Search of.. and they reported that Stull, Ks was one of 2 maybe 3 places that Satan had appeared and thus it was considered a gateway to hell.

Sometimes in the early 90's the town had the entire graveyard fenced in to keep all the college kids from KU and the high school kids from Topeka going there and messing up the graveyard. When I was in high school I went up there once in the daytime and all I saw was a painted pentagram and a whole lot of beer cans.

But nice to hear from other Kansas skeptics especially about something so close to home.

Thanks for the link. I remember hearing that "people have tried, but they can't burn it down" .... maybe that's because it was made of stone?

That legend about it being a gateway for the devil would make a great cheesy b-horror movie, though, and bring some tourist dollars to Stull and surrounding areas.

One would think that the devil would make an appearance at an elaborate venue like St Paul's Chapel in NYC or Canterbury Cathedral in England.

From what I've heard the residents of Stull arn't thrilled about the publicity that the church has gotten. I've heard reports of people being shot at for trespassing. I believe I saw another article on the net that said it was the near by townfolk that tore down the church.
