Justin Trudeau is stepping down as his party's leader. The leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, said,"'Canadians can take back control of their lives and their country,' he said in a video post on X. 'Take back control of our border. Take back control of immigration. Take back control of spending, deficits and inflation. We’ll cap spending, axe taxes, reward work, build homes, uphold family, stop crime, secure borders, rearm our forces, restore our freedom and put Canada first.'"

How does he plan to cut taxes while building homes, stopping crime, securing the borders, and rearming the armed forces? Enquiring minds want to know.

He doesn't. He has spent years watching Trump and thinks those kinds of sound bite lies are the key to getting elected. A Trump mini-me in the making.

"Justin Trudeau has announced he will resign as Canada's prime minister after nine years in office.

"He'd been facing mounting political crises and deepening unpopularity, and polls showed he was on track to lose badly when Canadians vote later this year.

"Mr Trudeau's resignation will take effect once his party selects a replacement leader, he said."

Only one problem for Pierre. His party is not in power and he has not been elected PM yet. He is just preaching from his armchair in front of the TV.
He will be the next PM unless someone steals the election. In any case my point is that if this is his platform, then his platform is contradictory.

I can almost guarantee there will be a non confidence vote and the government will be brought down triggering an election. Both the Cons and the NDP hope to make gains while the Liberals are in disarray.

Its hard not to see that ol Pierre Polyester will be our next PM. Its embarrassing.

He just plans on cutting taxes for the rich. He's lying about everything else.

Followed by all sorts of laughable speculation about the Canadian president making the Opposition leader the next PM, and Canadia automagically becoming State 51 of the USA just on his/her say-so, etc. Said speculation coming from the folks who don't know the slightest thing how government works in Canada. Or even in their own country. And Muskrat is Xcreting as well, which just stirs the cesspool.

Yeah, just like Trump could never be the president of the USA because he's such a fool.
The USA is a very right wing country. Even their left is to the right of most world democracies. Canadians value their social programs and will not readily elect a leader whose stated goal is to destroy them.....I hope :p. I actually expect the next election to produce a conservative minority government, who will not be able to enact most of their more drastic policies due to lack of support from other parties. This may actually be the first time I will be glad that the Bloc exists.

Great point. We saw the same with Stephen Harper, who then went on to win a majority government. In fact, here one can get a majority on as little as 38% of the popular vote: both the Liberals and Conservatives have done that in my lifetime. So Poilievre could become Prime Minister with a majority in the House despite 62% of Canadians voting against him. It's a major downside of our first-past-the-post system, which Justin Trudeau replaced. Oh, wait ...
